PAULINE H. ERGOTT

GENEVA — Pauline H. Ergott, 85, formerly of Sid White Road, died Jan. 1 at Geneva General Hospital.
Family and friends called from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at Weldon Funeral Home, where a funeral service officiated by Rev. John Tharp was held at 3 p.m. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan.
Memorials may be made to Seneca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waterloo.
Pauline was born Nov. 23, 1922 in Naples to Delbert and Kathryn Schultz Brink. She was a homemaker and member of the First Baptist Church and Rod & Gun Club.
She is survived by her brother David of Rochester; three sisters, Eva Ward of Waterloo; Jean Gee of Seneca Falls and Marjorie Smith of Waterloo.
She was predeceased by her husband Charles in 1997 in addition to sister Beulah and Loretta and a brother, Delmar.

MORTON FARMER SR.

DUNDEE — Morton Farmer Sr., 84, died Saturday, December 29 at the Bath V.A. surrounded by his family and friends.
Calling hours were held from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Jan. 3 at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St., Penn Yan. A funeral service followed and burial was in White Haven Cemetery at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4.
Morton was a T5 Corporal in the 836 Engineers Aviation Corps and served in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He received the good conduct and several other medals. His tour took him to many islands, such as New Guinea, Moeraki, Manila, the Philippines and eventually, Nagoya, Japan for deployment home.
He was a graduate of Monroe High School and retired from Manitou Construction. He was a member of Teamster Local 398.
Morton’s calling was to serve at the Penn Yan Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints.
He is survived by his wife Barbara (Jean) and his first wife, Edith Farmer and their children Rebecca (Richard)Bowman of North Cohocton; Morton Jr. (Patty) Farmer of Saratoga Springs, Utah; Wendie (Merle Thoele, Twin Falls, Idaho; a sister Rieta Miller of Grand Junction, Colo; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, a great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Steven.

KAROL R. HARTMAN

PENN YAN — Karol R. Hartman, 74, of Hillcrest Drive, Penn Yan, died Monday, December 31, 2007 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Friends and family called at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 East Elm St., Penn Yan from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6.  His memorial service was held at the funeral chapel on Monday, Jan. 7  at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Barbara Gifford officiating.  Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Karol’s name to the Keuka Comfort Care Home, P.O. Box 107, Penn Yan, NY  14527.
Karol was born March 29, 1933 in Penn Yan, the son of Harold and Hilda Hartman. He was a graduate of the Penn Yan Academy, Class of 1952.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1956 in Germany.  He retired from the NYS D.O.T as the Highway Maintenance Supervisor and served on the Village of Penn Yan’s Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals.  He was a member of the Penn Yan Lions Club, Masonic Temple, Penn Yan Moose Lodge and ELKS Lodge, VFW and American Legion.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie B. Hartman on April 6, 2004.
Karol is survived by his children, David Hartman of Penn Yan, Kurt (Dawn) Hartman of Buffalo, and Sissy (Tony Calice) Hartman of Penn Yan; grandchildren, Matthew and Jarred Calice; special friend Jean Carroll; brother, Dale (Audrey) Hartman; sisters Judy, (Bill) McGinnis and Faye (Jim) Castner; aunt Aledeen Best; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

KYLE HOPKINS

HEBER CITY, UTAH — Kyle Hopkins passed away peacefully on December 17, 2007 in Heber City, Utah, after a valiant struggle with brain cancer.
He was born in Rochester on Oct. 13, 1963, the son of David and Catherine Hopkins, formerly of Penn Yan, now residing in Heber City.
When he was young, Kyle and his family moved to Penn Yan, where he attended high school at Penn Yan Academy from which he graduated with high honors in 1981.
While at the Academy he lettered in the sports of basketball, football and lacrosse. While a member and captain of the football team, he was awarded the honor of Outstanding Offensive Lineman during the final game at Fauver Stadium in Rochester during his team’s Section 5 championship run in 1980. Also at the Academy, he was elected to the National Honor Society. He played as a starter on the PYA lacrosse team in 1978 thru 1981. In 1980 and 1981 he received All-State honors while a member of the team.
After high school, Kyle went on to college at Hobart College in Geneva, graduating in 1985 with a BA in History and sociology. While at Hobart, he was a four-year starter on the football team as a defensive end/linebacker, achieving All-Conference Honors in 1984 and 1985. Also at Hobart, he was a member of the college’s National Championship Lacrosse team in 1984-85. He played the attack position on the lacrosse team.
After college, Kyle moved to New England and there continued with athletics and commenced his coaching career. He was the Head Men’s Lacrosse coach at St. Michael’s College in 1994-95 and the Head Men’s Alpine Skiing and Head Lacrosse Coach in 1996-99. During this period in New England he started his ski-coaching career at Stowe Mountain. While in Vermont, he was selected to become the Head Men’s Development Coach for the U.S. Ski Team. He moved to Utah and stayed in this position from 1999 to 2002. He participated as a coach with the U.S. Ski Team during the 2002 Olympics and continued as a World Cup Technical Coach with the ski team in 2003 - 2004. In 2004, he left the U.S. team and became the head alpine and conditioning coach for the Rowmark Ski Academy in Salt Lake City. In 2006, he was invited to be the head coach of the Lebanese Olympic Ski Team in Torino, Italy. After the Olympics, he became the Head Alpine Ski Coach for the Snowbird Ski Resort ski team in Salt Lake City. He was in this position when struck with his illness.
Kyle’s coaching certifications include USSA International Level Coach (highest level in country), FIS Technical Delegate (Level 3) and FIS Referee (highest).
Kyle is survived by his parents, his ex-wife Leigh, their son Gabriel of Park City, Utah; his brothers Bryan (Beth-Ellen), sons Travis and Kristopher of North Andover, Mass.; Keith (Marsha), son Harlan of Pittsfield, Vt.; and his special friend, Chirine and a multitude of friends in the skiing world.
Kyle was a very compassionate person who will be remembered not only as an excellent technical coach but also a human being, deeply interested and concerned with the welfare and livelihood of those athletes that fell under his care.
A memorial service was held for Kyle at the Snowbird Resort on Monday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m. Sometime in the spring, another memorial service will be held in Kyle’s hometown, Penn Yan, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
Those person’s wishing to donate to a charity in Kyle’s remembrance may do so to the charity of their choice or to a memorial fund that has been established for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and for an impoverished medical facility in Bariloche, Argentina that was instrumental in saving his life after a serious accident when he was with the US ski team in that country. It was always Kyle’s wish that he could someday repay them for his care. HARRIETT M. RAPALEE

PENN YAN — Harriett M. Rapalee, 79, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the Keuka Comfort Care Home.
Family and friends called at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan, NY 14527 on Monday, Jan. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m.  Harriett’s service will be at the Penn Yan United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Jan. 8 at 10 a.m.  Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Harriett’s name to Keuka Comfort Care Home, P.O. Box 107, Penn Yan, NY 14527 or Penn Yan United Methodist Church “Living” Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 242, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Harriett was born on September 1, 1928 in Dundee,  the daughter of Frederick and Susan Tennant Lane.  She began her career as a bookkeeper with Owen Hoban and then started her banking career with Citizens Bank.  She retired from Chase Bank after 39 years.  Harriett was a former Village of Penn Yan Trustee, a member of BPW and Penn Yan Library Board.  She was also a member of the following Auxiliaries – Soldier’s & Sailors Hospital, American Legion, VFW, Penn Yan Moose, Yates County Ladies Fire and Penn Yan Fire. 
She is survived by her sons, Stephen (Paulette) and Donald (Krista) Rapalee of Penn Yan; grandchildren, Douglas (Cori Stevens) and Christine Rapalee; close companion, Ward Stout; sister-in-law, Gerry Lane; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Harriett was predeceased by her husband, Ernest W. Rapalee; sister, Elizabeth Rapalee Fleet; brothers, “Ted”, Frederick and Richard Lane.

JOHN R. RAZY

CORTLAND/DUNDEE — John R. Razy,  87, of Cortland, formerly of Dundee, died Friday December 28, 2007 at Northwoods at Cortland.
Honoring his wishes there are no prior calling hours.  A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the Dundee Baptist Church, 20 Seneca Street, Dundee with Rev. Anitra Price officiating. Inurnment will be in Hillside Cemetery Dundee.
Memorial contributions in John’s memory may be made to the Dundee Fire Dept., 12 Union St., Dundee, 14837, or Northwoods at Cortland 28 Kellogg Rd. Cortland, 13045.
John was born Aug. 15, 1920 in Penn Yan,  the son of Rufus and Edna Mitstifer Razy. On Oct. 10, 1941 in Dundee, he married the former Virginia E. Crans.  He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. during World War II, from 1943 to 1945.  He had lived in Cortland since January of 2004, previously of Dundee, where he had worked in the Maintenance Department and drove bus for Dundee Central School.  He was the owner of the former Razy Jewelry Store in Dundee; and retired from Shaw’s Lumber in 1982.
Mr. Razy was a member of Dundee Baptist Church; a former member of the Dundee Fire Dept. and Fire Police; the Dundee VFW; and Dundee American Legion; and had served on the Dundee Election Board.  He was a locksmith, a jewelry maker and enjoyed model trains.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia E. Razy also at Northwoods at Cortland; two daughters-in-law Janet  Razy of Cortland, and Gale Razy of Dundee; two grandsons Kevin R. (Shelley) Razy of Lee Center,  Douglas G. (Keylie) Wright of Texas; three granddaughters Kathy L. (Lloyd) Hatfield of Cortland, Annette L. Bogart of Cayuta, and Shelley (Mark) Cunningham of Dundee; 12 great grandchildren; a sister Janet Reynolds of Penn Yan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by two sons, Alan L. Razy on Sept. 12, 1994; and Richard J. Razy on July 20, 2007.
Arrangements are by the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.

FRANCES C. "BILLIE" STAPE

PENN YAN — Frances C. “Billie” Stape, 87, of Lawrence Street, Penn Yan died Friday, December 28, 2007 at Soldier’s and Sailor’s Memorial Hospital.
Services for Billie will be held at the convenience of the family.
Billie was born Feb. 5, 1920 in Second Milo,  the daughter of Lee and Flossie Cook.  She married her husband, John Stape in April of 1941.  She was employed as a seamstress for Michael Sterns in Penn Yan until her retirement.  In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, John on July 8, 1990 and all her siblings.
She is survived by her nephews, Sam (Judy) Terpolilli of Penn Yan, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Satta, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Satta, nieces, Sue Enright of Webster, Jane (Dana) Gregory of Williamson, and Joan (Mike) Macalka of Greenville, SC; brother-in-law, Frank Satta; and several great nieces and nephews.
