George W. Osborne Jr., 72, of Barrington, died Tuesday February 23, 2010 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, in Penn Yan.

Friends are invited to call from 5-7 p.m. Saturday March 6 at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water St., Dundee. Honoring his wishes services and burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dundee Fire Dept. or Emergency Squad, 12 Union St., Dundee, NY 14837.

George was born June 25, 1937 in Penn Yan, the son of George and Charlotte Johnson Osborne Sr. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On June 29, 1960 in Seneca Falls, he married the former Florence P. Parrish. A life long area resident George was a truck driver for most of his working career. Road construction with Malcuria Brothers of Geneva for many years; he also had worked for Morton Salt, Coach and Equipment and most recently in Customer Relations, and Product Assembly for Walmart in Watkins Glen.

George was very active serving his community and fellow man. He served on the Yates County Legislature, Barrington Town Board and it’s Planning Board. He was a member of the Dundee American Legion Bradley-Jessop Post #660, the Dundee Fire Department and Emergency Squad, the NYS Fire Police, was a Red Cross Volunteer and first responder, and loved socializing and working at the Barrington Rifle Club.

When he was not volunteering or helping someone, he enjoyed golf, camping, hunting, bon-fires, and going out to eat with family and friends.

He will be missed by his wife of 49 years Florence P. “Flossie” Osborne at home; a daughter Louella P.(Robert) Goodwin of Lake, Mich.; two sons Pete C. (Sandy Hodge) Dean, and Judd H. (Dianne) Dean, both of Dundee; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three nieces and a nephew.

He was  pre-deceased by a sister, Sylvia Best of Penn Yan.
