MARJORIE B. ALEXANDER
PENN YAN — Marjorie B. Alexander, 95, of North Main St., Penn Yan peacefully passed away at home on Saturday, February 28, 2009.
Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan. Funeral services for Marjorie will immediately follow at noon with the Rev. Barbara Gifford, officiating. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan.
Marjorie Jessica Bordwell Alexander was born on June 2, 1913, to Jay O. and Bessie Phalen Bordwell on the family farm outside Potter, where she grew up. She moved to Penn Yan as a young woman and was thereafter a lifelong resident.
All her life Marjorie was known for her willingness to work hard. In her long life she held many jobs, including a stint as one of the first female taxi drivers in Penn Yan in the 1930s; longtime bookkeeper for her brother-in-law, Ira Wyman, at his Mobil fuel business on Clinton Street; and waitress at the original Keuka Restaurant as well as Herr Jensen's. She also worked at the original Wagner Hotel on Main Street and the old Hilltop Restaurant. She was particularly devoted to her sister, Blanche Bordwell Wyman, as well as her extended family and neighbors and took great interest in the details of their daily lives. She was an avid needleworker and spent hours crocheting and needlepointing gifts for friends and family.
She leaves many nieces and nephews and devoted friends, neighbors, and caregivers as well as her best friend, Bob Delbono, to whom her family is very grateful for their years of assistance in helping to care for Marjorie.
She was predeceased by her parents and all her siblings: Ernest, Jay, Bruce, and Blanche.
ALFRED D. BAUMANN
STANLEY — Alfred D. Baumann, 75, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at his home, following a long illness.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14 at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 11 a.m.

Al was born Jan. 28, 1934 in his family’s home in Stanley. He attended Gorham Central School. At the age of 17, Al joined the Army Reserves of Canandaigua. In May 1953 he started active duty with the U.S.Army. He received basic training at Camp Atterbury, Ind. Al served with the 24th Infantry Division in Korea, as a Platoon Sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1959.

Al had worked at the Seneca Ordinance, at Ace Automatics in Geneva, and at Agway Petroleum in Geneva, as a salesman serving Sodus, Geneva and Dundee. He retired from Comstock Foods in Gorham.
A friend to all, he loved golf, fishing, NASCAR, the NY Yankees and mowing lawn.
He leaves his wife of 55 years, Joanne Perry Baumann; sons, Jonathan (JoAnne) of Canandaigua, and Timothy (Susan) of Canandaigua; granddaughters, Ryin of Canandaigua and Rachel of Stanley; sisters, June Earing of Waterloo, Dorothy Shipman of Penn Yan, and Betty Campbell of Canandaigua; brother-in-law, Sam Purpura of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Alfred, his mother, Neva; sisters, Virginia Weyneth and Shirley Purpura; and brothers-in-law, Bill Earing, Dave Shipman, Chuck Campbell and Gerald Weyneth.
SHELDON H. COON SR.
PENN YAN — Sheldon H. Coon, 81, North Flat St., Benton died Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.
Friends called from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13 at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 East Main St., Penn Yan, where a funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 15 with the Rev. Carol Pinneo officiating. Burial was in Bellona Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Benton or Bellona Volunteer Fire Department.
Sheldon was born Jan. 15, 1928 in Vine Valley. He was one of 12 children born to Edwin and Sarah Huey Coon. He attended Middlesex Schools and had been employed by the town of Benton Highway Department for 35 years, serving as highway superintendent from 1976 to 1987. Following his retirement, he served on the Town Board for 1991 to 1999 and owned and operated a farm for many years. He was a member of several highway superintendent associations and had been a member of the Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rose Kennerson Coon of Penn Yan; his son, Sheldon Coon of Penn Yan; his daughters, Connie (Randy) Hayes of Penn Yan, Donna (Charles) Abbitt of Asheville, N.C. and Bonnie (Ed Putnam) Goodman of Penn Yan; his sisters, Alfrieda Bates of Canandaigua and Wilma (Bill) Dobbs of Penn Yan; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
WENDELL WILKIE INGRAM
WATERLOO — Wendell Wilkie Ingram, 68, of Waterloo died Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Huntington Nursing Home in Waterloo.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m.Tuesday, March 10 at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 E. Elm St., Penn Yan. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Norman White, officiating.
Wendell was born on Sept. 24, 1940 in the Town of Potter, the son of Oliver and Murdie Ingram.
He was employed as a farmer for many years and had work for Palermo’s Farms. Wendell enjoyed outings, driving, and socializing. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Geraldine Whalen.
Wendell is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; children, Jean (Ronald) Sawdy of AK, their children, Ron Jr., Angel, and Jonathon, and their three grandchildren; Joan (Jeff) Jorgensen and their children, Thomas and Holley, and their grandson; Jody (Dawn) Ingram and their children, Ozzy and Kylie; and Wendy (Thomas) Lackey and their children, Dallas and Hunter; his sisters, Eleanor Parker and Jean Cathy; and several nieces and nephews.

LEON D. JENSEN
PENN YAN — Leon D. Jensen, 77, of Cornwell Street, Penn Yan, died Thursday, March 5 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Friends may call at Weldon Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 9 and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 10. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Penn Yan.

Leon was born July 4, 1931 to Howard and Rozelle Moshier Jensen where he lived on the family farm on Ridge Road and where he worked for many years. Leon drove tractor-trailer for Penn Yan express for 40 years and CEX after Penn Yan Express closed. He also worked for Ribble Lumber, as well as Apple Barrel Orchards where he drove tractor.
He owned and operated Jensen's Dairy Bar for many years and helped build Herr Jensen's restaurant for his brother, Howard.
He was the owner of the Bobbie Lou Shoppe in 1987. He worked in the produce department at P&C and at the Pumpernickel Restaurant.
In high school, he was a member of the track team.
He built a cottage on Keuka Lake where he enjoyed many years, went on numerous family fishing trips to Canada, cooked many chicken barbecues for the fire department and Birkett Mills picnics.
He built many houses and buildings in and around the area.
He was a member of the Penn Yan Elks Lodge, Penn Yan Moose, and YASTA Club. He was the Penn Yan Fire Department Sheldon Hose Co. Fire Chief from 1967 for many years and was a founding member of the emergency squad.
He was president of the Penn Yan Little League in the 1960s and assistant scoutmaster for Troop 44. He was a member of the Penn Yan Village Board during the 1980s.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia Allen Jensen; three sons, Bruce (Rita) Jensen Sr., of Bath, Leon (Arlene) Jensen Jr. of Penn Yan, Farrell (Donna) Jensen Sr. of Florida; a daughter Susan (William) Chisom of Penn Yan; 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Barbara Garrison (Roger Gurba) of Penn Yan, several nephews, cousins and special caregivers Deb Irwin Jensen and Norman Koek.

PENN YAN — Catherine F. Lonergan, 100, of Penn Yan, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the Homestead Nursing Home in Penn Yan.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at St. Michael’s Church, Liberty St., Penn Yan with Father Robert Ring, officiating. Interment will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her name to St. Michael’s School, 214 Keuka St., Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Catherine was born on March 6, 1908 in Hornell, the daughter of Charles and Katherine DeLavergne. She was a telephone operator in Hornell, and retired from Michael Sterns in Penn Yan after 29 years of service. She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church and loved to garden.
Catherine is survived by her daughters, Mary (Gerald) Brundage Sr. of Phelps, and Kathryn ‘Kay’ (Andy) Jensen of Lakeland, Fla.; 16 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Michael Henry Lonergan in 1953 and her brother, Charles DeLavergne.

PAUL NELSON JR.
ELIZABETH CITY, N.J. — Paul Dorsey Nelson Jr., 81, died in his home Monday, February 16, 2009.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 19 at Twiford's Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Mark Tanis, USCG officiating. He was buried with full military honors at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, Va.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clarence Jackson VFW Post 6060, P.O. Box 1384, Elizabeth City, N.C. 27909 to buy uniforms for the color guard who presides at every veteran's funeral.
Born in 1927, he was a native of Dresden. He entered the U.S. Navy at the age of 15 and spent the years during the war helping to keep the supply lines open to Russia. For his service, he was awarded a medal of valor at the Russian Embassy in Washington D.C. He retired after 20 years in the Navy and worked for the United State Postal Service until he retired again.
Hs is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alberta Smith Nelson, daughter Andrea (Dr. Jack Lee) Nelson Boone, of Hertford, N.J.; a son, Paul Dorsey Nelson III of Newport Nwes; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, siblings, Dorsa Ann Nelson Sherman of Birmingham, Ala., John Robert "Jack" (Irene) Nelson of Salsibury, Md. and sister-in-law Joanna (Marco) Errico of Dresden.
He was predeceased by his father and stepmother, Paul Dorsey Nelson Sr. and Marion Nelson Kitchen, his mother, Thelma Kask Nelson, and a sister, Suezanne Nelson Berghorn.

PENN YAN — Helen M. North, 80, of County House Road, Penn Yan, died Friday, March 6 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Helen was born May 19, 1928, the daughter of James and Maude Scofield Sutton.
She was a member of the Penn Yan Ladies Auxiliary for 60 years.
She loved her family, grandchildren, her many plants and pets as well as crocheting.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert; a son Ernest (Robyn) North of Ballston lake; daughter, Donna North of Dresden; five grandchildren and a sister Mary (Martin) Tones of Penn Yan.
She was predeceased by a son, James Robert.
