Celia Ruth (Maudie) Goundry, 85, of East Main Street, Penn Yan, died Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 East Main St., Penn Yan, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24. Burial will be in Bellona Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Keuka Comfort Care Home, 35 Route 54, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Ruth was born Nov. 11, 1924, the daughter of Myron and Genevieve Reed French.
She was a carrier for both the Finger Lakes Times and The Chronicle-Express for many years. She also was a member of the Women of the Moose.
She is survived by two sons, Donald (Shaun) Vergason of Chester, S.C. and Robert Vergason of Nichols; three daughter, Loretta Rossman, Kathy (Steve) Schmidt and Lois (Terry) McMichael, all of Penn Yan; two stepchildren, Cindy (Mark) Fenton of Penn Yan and William (Dorothy) Goundry of Dundee; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; a brother, Paul French of Newark Valley and a sister, Shirley Houston of Austin, Pa.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bill, in 2006.
