JOHN WILLIAM DRAKE

MANHEIM, PA. — John William Drake, 73, of 1034 Cambridge Drive Manheim, and formerly of Caldwell and Bridgewater N.J. and Spring City, Tenn. died Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Lancaster General Hospital.


The family received friends at their home 1034 Cambridge Drive Manheim, Pa. on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m.


Private services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Please omit flowers. Born in Moline, Ill. he was the son of the late James Samuel and Mary Wright Drake. Bill was a manufactures representative in the wire industry throughout his life; most recently working for Leggett and Platt Corporation of Carthage, Mo.


He was a United States Navy veteran who served on the USS Forrestal.


Bill was the husband of Joyce Williams Drake and they observed their 46th wedding anniversary in May of last year. He graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island Ill. with a bachelor’s degree in business. He enjoyed travel, fishing and spending time with his family. Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Jennifer D. Sweigart of Lancaster, a son, John W. Jr. (Erin Sullivan) of Easton, three grandchildren, Emily, Carter and Allison Drake, and a sister, Nancy Olton of Cleveland, Ohio.

CONSIDINE L. EDWARD JR.

ELMIRA — Considine L. Edward Jr. 76, of Elmira,  died Friday, February 29, 2008.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Elmira.  Interment, with full military honors, followed at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.  Contributions may be made to Southern Tier Hospice and Palliative Care, 11751 East Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830.


He was born on Oct. 30, 1931 in Elmira.


Considine graduated from Cranwell Preparatory School, Lenox, Mass. in 1950, The College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Mass. with a BA in Liberal Arts in 1954 and Marquette University with a BS in Civil Engineering in 1959. 


Ed received his professional engineering license in 1960.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1956 and was separated from active duty with the rank of Lieutenant JG.  While in the Navy Ed became a certified Salvage Operation Diver, graduating from the U.S. Navy Salvage School in Bayonne, N.J. 


Ed returned to Elmira in 1960 and became Assistant General Manager at the Elmira Water Board.  In 1972 he took over as General Manager. 


Considine retired from the Elmira Water Board in 1991 after 30 years of service.  He then went to work for Hunt Architects & Engineers in Corning as a consultant.  Ed was a member of several area Boards of Directors.  He was a member of the Rotary Club and Our Lady of Lourdes Church.


He loved his family, his faith, his profession and Keuka Lake.  


He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Teresa Hoban Considine; his daughters,  Anne (Timothy) Dwyer, of Apalachin, Mary Ellen Anderson, of Rochester, Colleen (James) Cozart, of Raleigh, N.C., Catherine (Robert, Jr.) DeMember, of Elmira,  seven grandchildren, a cousin Raymond Murray, and many nieces and nephews. 


He was predeceased by his parents, Leo Edward and Catherine Gavin Considine, his brother John Considine and his daughter Maureen Lourdes Considine.


KIMBERLY ANNE (BUTLER) FLOWER

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. — Kimberly Anne (Butler) Flower, 46, formerly of Campbell and Ovid, died February 13 at the Shands Jacksonville Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla. after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer.


Kim was born Oct. 19, 1961 to Kasson and Ionne Lohmeyer Butler.  She graduated from Campbell Central School, attended Corning Community College and was a member of the Fort Caroline United Methodist Church in Jacksonville.  She was an active volunteer in her church and Arlington Elementary School, where she was recently elected vice-president of the PTA.


She is survived by her husband, Walter; son Cody; mother, Ionne Butler; brothers Wayne (Molly) and Kevin (Laurie) Butler; nephew, Scott Butler; nieces, Sarah, Jessica and Mary Beth Butler; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and friends in both Florida and New York.  Her father, Kasson; a sister, Krista; and her infant daughter, Krista, predeceased her.


A Memorial Service was held on Feb. 18 at the Ft. Caroline United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, but a service celebrating Kim’s life will be held on Saturday, March 8 at 11 a.m. at the Ovid Federated Church in Ovid, NY.  A fund has been established to care for the future needs of her son, Cody, and gifts may be sent to the Cody R. Flower Fund, in care of Scott Butler, 925 7th North St. (C48), Liverpool, NY  13088.

JANE A. GOODENOW

STANLEY — Jane A. Goodenow, 60, died Tuesday, February 26, 2008 at the Keuka Comfort Care Home in Penn Yan.


Friends called Saturday, March 1 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m. at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A funeral service followed at 8 p.m.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Keuka Comfort Care Home, 35 E. Lake Rd., Penn Yan, NY 14527.


Jane was the widow of Robert Dennis Goodenow, who died Aug.14, 2003. She was a former employee of the Geneva Wegmans, and was currently employed at Hobart William Smith Colleges in Geneva.


Surviving are son Eric and daughter-in-law, Cindy Goodenow of Waterloo and their children, Robert and Erica Goodenow, and son, Aaron Goodenow of Florida; brothers, Danny (Eve) Lafler, Richard Lafler and Brian Lafler; sisters-in-law, Beverly Yeakley and Edie Goodenow; and several nieces and nephews.

WALTER E. (GENE) GUILD

PENN YAN — Walter E. (Gene) Guild Jr., 78, of Penn Yan died March 1, 2008 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan.


Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 6 at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 E. Main St., Penn Yan. His funeral , officiated by The Rev. John Tharp, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 7 at the First Baptist Church in Penn Yan.
Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery in Cuba, N.Y.


Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 224 Main St., Penn Yan, N.Y. 14527 or to Habitat for Humanity, P.O. Box 391, Penn Yan, N.Y. 14527.


Born May 4, 1929 in Cuba to Walter E. and Harriett Gilford Guild, he was a chemistry and physics teacher in the Penn Yan School District from 1955 to 1990.


He was a life member of the Johnson-Costello Post 355 of the American Legion; member of STANYS (Science Teachers Association of New York State), past member of Penn Yan Central School District Board of Education, an original board member of Yates County Habitat for Humanity and past Cub Scoutmaster, among the many community projects in which he participated.


He had a dedication and passion for teaching, God and country, gardening, singing, classical music, baseball and softball. He especially loved his family and his grandchildren.


He extensively travelled through Russia twice for the People to People Exchange program during the turbulent times at the end of communism. Above all, he had an ability to make a difference in a person’s life everyday.


He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marlene; a son, Drew L. (Cheryl D.) Guild of Horseheads; a daughter, Julanne (John) Roy of Michigan; a brother, Samuel (Joanne) of Cuba and seven grandchildren.

MARY FARINELLI KEOUGH

AMBLER, PA. — Mary Farinelli Keough, 86, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on February 21, 2008.  


Services were held on March 1 at Artman Lutheran Home, where she made many new friends and received loving care the past 2 1/2 years.  A Catholic mass and burial will take place in Penn Yan at St. Michael’s Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael’s School, which she and her children attended.


Mary was born on June 13, 1921, in Quincy, Mass., the eldest daughter of Costanzo and Beatrice (Tarallo) Farinelli.  She moved to Penn Yan shortly after her birth, where she lived until moving to Ambler, Pa., in 2005 to be close to her daughter, Kathleen.  
She married James T. Keough on May 21, 1943 and raised two children:  James “Mike” Keough (Sandra) of Cuba; and Kathleen Joslyn (Richard) of Jenkintown, Pa.  


Mary loved to cook, bake, can, sew, and tend her flower gardens; she and Jim square-danced, fished, camped, and traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.  Mary worked at Michael Sterns, the Soil Conservation Service, and Penn Yan Central Schools, and was active in Catholic Daughters of America.

 
She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Erin and Andrew Joslyn and Heather and Nathan Keough, on whom she lavished love and attention and to whom she was a devoted grandmother.  She most enjoyed playing cards with her grandchildren and feeding them cookies.  


Mary was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Jim and five brothers.  She is survived by her sister, Rose Lovett, of Ovid.  

JERALD C. LIPPINCOTT

RUSHVILLE —Jerald C. Lippincott, 58, died suddenly Thursday, February 28, 2008 at F.F.Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua.


Friends called from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, March 3 at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 4 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in Gorham Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Middlesex Valley Volunteer Ambulance, P.O. Box 1, Middlesex, NY 14507.


Jerry was a 1967 graduate of Gorham Central School and a 1970 graduate of Finger Lakes Community College. He was a social worker for Ontario County. He had been a chef in many area restaurants and had once owned and operated his own restaurant. Jerry loved politics and was a Harley motorcycle enthusiast.


He is survived by his wife, Dawn Lippincott of Rushville; mother, Martha Lippincott of Gorham; son, Jed (Michelle) Lippincott of Florida; daughter, Rachel (Greg) Miller of North Cohocton; two brothers, Ronald (Barbara) Lippincott of Gorham, and Jeff (Vickie) Lippincott of Canandaigua; two granddaughters, Madison and Jade; and several nieces and nephews.


Jerry was predeceased by his father, Clarence Lippincott in 1995.

ANNA PACIULLI

PENN YAN — Anna Paciulli died Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at St. Michael’s Church in Penn Yan with Father John Gathenya, Celebrant.  Memorials may be made in her name to St. Michael’s School, 214 Keuka St., Penn Yan, NY  14527.


She was a beautician and operated Anna’s Beauty Shoppe for many years.  She was born in Elkland, Pa., the daughter of Louie and Emma Ciccone Paciulli.


She is survived by her friends, Janet and Dick Osgood, Mary Jane Hurrin, Judy Hoover, Phyllis and Kenneth Petersen, Hilda Schofield, Linda and Gunter Weichenthal; and numerous cousins.

ELIZABETH J. SMITH

GENEVA — Elizabeth J. Smith, 92, died Friday, February 29, 2008 at the Living Center South in Geneva.


Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 3 at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A funeral followed at 8 p.m. Burial was in Sandhill Cemetery.

Elizabeth was born in Saskatchewan, Canada. She was the widow of Clarence Smith.
She is survived by one daughter, A. June Smith of Geneva; two sons, Clarence W. “Spike” (Deanie) Smith of Canandaigua and Walter A. (Sheila) Smith of Rushville; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; three brothers, Arthur (Elsie) Deys of Pennsylvania, William Deys of Palmyra, and Harry (Ruth) Deys of Rochester; brother-in-law,Kenneth (Margaret) Smith of Palmyra; and several nieces and nephews.
