MABLE L. BARNES

BATH—Mable L. Chalmers Barnes, 88, of Williamson Terrace and formerly of 2 Shannon Street, Bath, died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath.


Friends may call from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 30 at Fagan’s Funeral Home in Bath, funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Jeff McDowell officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1 at Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan.


She was born Oct. 23, 1919 in Branchport, the daughter o Eugene and Ethel Habberfield Finger. She was retired from Taylor Winery of Hammondsport. She was a member of the Charles E. Wescott American Legion Post 173 Auxiliary and the Centenary United Methodist Church of Bath. She volunteered at the Bath V.A.M.C. for over 20 years and was the Volunteer of the Year in 2004.


She is survived by two sons, Donald (Colleen) Chalmers of Bath, and Robert (Judith) Chalmers of Gunnersville, AL; daughter, Barbara Jean Holmes of Hickory, NC; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.


She was predeceased by her first husband, Robert N. Chalmers; second husband, Wilson O. Barnes; and grandson, Mark Holmes.

HAROLD S. BIXLER

STANLEY/SHORTSVILLE — Harold S. Bixler, 90, died Friday, April 25, 2008 at F.F. Thompson Hospital, Canandaigua.


Friends called Monday, April 28. at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. An Odd Fellows service was held at the funeral home Monday evening at 6:45 p.m. A funeral service was held Tuesday, April 29 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment was in Little Church Cemetery.

Harold was born in Montgomery, Pa. in 1917. He served in the U.S. Army for five years. He retired from the Town of Seneca Highway Department in 1982.


Harold was a member of the Seneca #9 Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder and on many committees. A member of the Stanley I.O.O. F. Lodge #434 and the Rebekah Lodge #220, he was a member of the Grand Encampment State of New York. He was also a member of Penn Yan American Legion Post # 355.


He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret Richie Bixler; children, Harold (Sharon) Bixler of South Carolina, and Anna Marie (Donald “Oogie”) Miller of Shortsville; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Russell (Betty) Bixler of Geneva and several nieces and nephews.


He was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Margaret Snyder Bixler; his brother, Lester Bixler; his sister, Lucille Park; and his granddaughter, Michele Miller.


WINIFRED B. CASE

PENN YAN —Winifred B. Case, 81 died Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Keuka Comfort Care Home.


Friends and family may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 30 at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 East Elm St., Penn Yan.  Her funeral will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2008 with Pastor Lawrence Semans officiating. Interment will follow at Second Milo Cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Keuka Comfort Care Home, P.O. Box 107, Penn Yan, NY  14527.


Winifred was born in New York City on Feb. 5, 1927, the daughter of James and Dorothy Drake Baldwin. She earned a business degree at RBI. She loved her home and family and enjoyed sports, gardening, playing cards, and spending quality time with her friends and family.


Winifred is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, James A. Case; children, Randall S. Blanchard of Georgetown, Fla., Nancy A. (Glenn) Gallipeau of Penn Yan; James A. (Kimarie) Case II of Jacksonville, Fla., Jody L. (Laura) Case of Chili, Jerri C. (Peter) Jensen of Penn Yan, and Janell C. Case of Cayuta; grandchildren, Amy (Steven) Calkins, Angela Blanchard, Matthew (Shandra) Blanchard, Gavin Case, Kennedy Jensen, Dane Jensen, Kyle Case, and Marisol Case; five great grandchildren; sister, Mary (Bob) Campbell; brother, William (Annamay) Baldwin; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close family friends.

DWAIN A. DART

RIDDLE, N.C. — Dwain “Butch” Arthur Dart, 64, of 218 Pond Road, Shawboro, N.C., died April 22 at the Albermarle Hospital.


A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Riddle Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Roland Cooper and Jon Mason officiating. Burial followed in the West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honor rendered by the William Clarence Jackson VFW Post #6060. A native of Corning, Dwain was the son of Frank Gilbert and Mildred Lesh Dart of Corning and the husband of Joy Susanne Williamson Dart.


He was a general foreman at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, a U.S. Navy Veteran of Vietnam and a member of Riddle Pentecostal Church.


In addition to his mother and wife, he is survived by daughters, Tammy (Kent) Edwards of Elizabeth City, N.C. and Marsha (Wes) Davis of Shiloh, N.C.; son Dwain Gilbert (Shannon) Dart of Camden, N.C.; sisters Sally Drabek of Addison, Jo Ann Albers of Painted Post, May Bachoffer of Brooklyn and Judy Anderson of Corning; seven grandchildren; sister-in-law Sharon (Billy) Harrell of Camden; brothers-in-law Chris (Becky) Williamson of Dresden and James (Kaye) Williamson of Penn Yan, several nieces and nephews.


He was predeceased by his father and brother, Frank E. Dart of Nelson, Pa.

RICHARD S. GOLLAHER

ALLEGANY—Richard Stephan Gollaher died Friday (April 18, 2008) in the Olean General Hospital.


A funeral was held Tuesday, April 22, 2008 in the First Presbyterian Church in Olean.  The Rev. William Allen officiated, assisted by the Rev. Dr. Anthony L. Evans.  Burial, with full military honors, was in Allegany Cemetery.


Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.


Born Feb. 12, 1946 in Arlington, Va., he was the son of Charles Richard and Gertrude Tapp Gollaher. On April 1, 1967 in Penn Yan he married Joan A. Strong, who survives.
Mr. Gollaher was a 1964 graduate of Olean High School and later he studied forestry at Paul Smith’s College. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, Pa. with a degree in petroleum engineering.


He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Vietnam War as a combat engineer in the 79th Engineer Brigade, receiving the Purple Heart. Upon retirement from active duty he served with the 98th Division of the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring as E-9 Master Sergeant in 1995.


He was owner of Gollaher Oil and Drilling Co. in Allegany.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Olean, the Olean Masonic Lodge #252 F&AM and a life member of the VFW in Olean and the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post #892. He served for seven years on an ad hoc committee on Real Property Tax Law.  He also served on the Allegany Town Planning Board for 20 years.


He was the secretary for the Pennsylvania Oil and Gas Association and was currently serving as the treasurer of the Independent Oil and Gas Association, Inc.  He also served on the board of directors for the NYS Oil Producer’s Association and was president of the Penn-Brad Oil Museum in Bradford, Pa.


In addition to his wife, he is survived by several cousins, brother-in-law Gary Strong of Cape Cod, Mass.; nephews Timothy Strong, Lance Strong and Jarrod Strong, all of Penn Yan and Jordon Strong of Cape Cod, Mass.; nieces Gretchen Callahan of Cape Cod, Mass. and Melissa Eberle of Allegany.

BRUCE A. KINDELBERGER

GORHAM/PENN YAN – Bruce A. Kindelberger, 76, died April 21, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua.


Friends called Thursday April 24 at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, April 25 at St. Theresa’s Church in Stanley.

Bruce was born in Canandaigua in November of 1931, the son of Alvin and Thelma Criss Kindelberger. He graduated from Gorham High School in 1949. Bruce was a member of St. Theresa’s Church and a lifetime member of the Gorham Fire Department. He served on the Gorham-Marcus Whitman Board of Education for several years; and on the Gorham Cemetery Association Board.


Bruce made his living from the earth as a farmer in the Potter area, as did his father and grandfather before him. He retired from farming in 1993. A gifted athlete as a young man, he especially continued to love the game of baseball, as well as hunting and fishing.


Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Jo Adams Kindelberger, with whom he just celebrated 56 years of marriage on April 19, 2008; his daughters, Susan (Mark) Shaw of Shortsville, Karen (Pat) Flood of Clifton Springs; his sons, Kevin (Kim) of West Hartford, Conn., Tim (BJ) of Elizabethtown, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Justin (Lisa), Heather, Brendan, Andrew, Taylor, Chloe, Ryan and Kate Ellen; three great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Kindelberger Adams; two sisters-in-law, Pat (Fred) Searles and Betty (Lloyd) Rogers; several nieces, nephews and family.


He was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Richard Adams and Richard Reifsteck.

IVAN MCKISSOCK
PENN YAN — Ivan A. McKissock, 88, of Pine Lake Road, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at The Homestead Nursing Home in Penn Yan.


Friends and family called Monday, April 28, 2008 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Townsend-Wood Funeral Chapel, 201 East Elm St., Penn Yan.  A memorial service to celebrate his life was held at 4 p.m, with the Rev. Ellen Knight officiating.  Committal service for Ivan will be at the Irondequoit Cemetery in Irondequoit, on Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 11a.m.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 1400 Winton Road North, Rochester, NY  14609-5896.


Ivan was born in Toronto, Canada on Nov. 23, 1919, the son of the late George and Anna Swenor McKissock.  He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army from Aug. 8, 1943 to Feb. 12, 1946, earning four service awards.  He was employed with General Motors, Delco Division in Rochester until retirement. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean M. McKissock in 1986.


He is survived by his son, Ronald (Karen) McKissock; daughter, Sue Ann (Christopher) Conway both of Rochester; and beloved companion, Marjorie Stine of Dundee; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

ANTHONY SANTULLO

PENN YAN — Anthony Santullo, 94, of North Liberty Street, Penn Yan, died April 21, 2008 at Geneva General Hospital.


Family and friends called from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 24 at Weldon Funeral Home, 102 East Main Street, Penn Yan, where a funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 24 with Fr. Robert Ring officiating. Burial was in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Penn Yan.

Memorials may be made to Keuka Comfort Care Home.


Born Jan. 1, 1914 in Bronx to Nicholas and Rose Santullo, Anthony was an auto mechanic at Dundee Motors in Dundee.


He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII and was a life member of the V.F.W. and a member of St. Michael’s Church.


He was an avid Yankees fan and loved football.


He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; step-son Lynn Connors of Penn Yan; daughters Shirley (Dan) Scutt of Penn Yan and Sharon Clark of Gilbert, Ariz.; grandson Brandon Anthony Clark, of Gilbert, Ariz.; two sisters and two brothers.

SAMUEL C. SEDAM
AMHERST/HIMROD — Samuel C. Sedam, 82, of Amherst, previously of Himrod, died Saturday April 26, 2008 at DeGraff Memorial Hospital, in North Tonawanda.


Friends are invited to his funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 30 at the Himrod Baptist Church, with Rev. Robert Rusbuldt officiating. Burial will follow in Grove Mount Cemetery, Himrod.

Samuel was born July 22, 1925 in Himrod, the son of Samuel T. and Olga Culver Sedam.  He graduated from Dundee Central School in 1943 and from R.I.T. as an Associate Electrical Engineer. 

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On Sept. 30, 1950 in Rochester, he married the former Jane M. “Jean” Kleinknecht.  Sam was employed by Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester, as an electrical engineer in paper sensitizing, retiring after 38 years of service in 1981. He moved to Himrod in 1987 from Spencerport.  He was a very active community-minded citizen, having been a member of the Himrod Baptist Church; past master of the Dundee Masonic Lodge; member of the Himrod Conservation Club and a delegate to Yates County Federation of Conservation Clubs; an ordained elder at the Ogden Presbyterian Church; charter member and past secretary of the Spencerport Lions Club; Charter member and past Crew Chief of Spencerport Volunteer Ambulance Service; an American Red Cross Advanced First Aid Instructor; and wrote the Himrod news for local newspapers, including The Chronicle-Express for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf.


He is survived by his wife of 57 years Jane K.“Jean”Sedam of Amherst; son, S. David (Wendy) Sedam of Kingsland, Ga.; daughter, Deborah J.(Richard Rice) Hapstak of Amherst, four grandchildren, S. Christopher (Kelly) Sedam, Tony Hapstak, Jenny (Matt) Clark, and Sam Hapstak; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are by the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee.
