We the chiefs, past chiefs and members of the Penn Yan Fire Department would like to thank the members of our community for the support you have expressed to us during the recent investigation of the use of funds paid to the department by the Village.
This account is categorized as the “Regular” account and these are the funds the Fire Board receives to run the department.
While we do not dispute anyone’s right to ask how the funds are spent, we do take offense when these same people call us criminals, thieves, liars, to name a few. We take much pride in our department and stand tall against these accusations. We all signed on as members to provide a service to our community and want you to understand that this commitment remains our number one priority. Nothing will cloud or distract us from providing this service to you.
If you have a question as to how we operate please contact a chief for clarification on anything. We have a website, e-mail addresses and an answering machine on our department phone. Remember, we are here to serve you so please come directly to us and we guarantee a response. Our department is ready to work with the Village Board to implement any accounting recommendations to better document the use of the “Regular” account.
Again, we wish to clearly state that we are proud of our current administration and our past administrations for their leadership of the Penn Yan Fire Department. We remain unified in our response and will continue to serve you, our community, with pride and dedication.
Respectfully,
Rick Retorick, Chief
