The Penn Yan Mustang boy's bowling team has been at the top of their game all season. Coach Mindy Johnson's talented keglers captured a share of the Finger Lakes East League championship earlier in the winter and excelled at last week's Finger Lakes Doubles/Singles Tournament.
The Orange and Blue move up one more rung on the success ladder Tuesday afternoon in Rochester. The Penn Yan Mustang boys captured the Section V Class C crown, outlasting their neighbors from Marcus Whitman. The Mustangs garnered 5,625 total pins to win the title. The Wildcats from Whitman finished in second place with 5,606. Leading the Penn Yan rush for the gold was Bryce Johnson with 1,231 pins. Steven Ottaviano tallied 1,188 total pins while teammate Jacob Whitford added 1,184. Zach Blauvelt finished with 979 pins. Marcus Whitman's Mikal Payne had the best single game for the day rolling a fine 268.
The Penn Yan Mustang boy's bowling team has brought home the Section V trophy four times. They last won in 2011-12 — that is until this year.
Penn Yan Coach Mindy Johnson has done a remarkable job building and sustaining the bowling programs in Penn Yan. Her hard work and a dedicated group of fine young bowlers continue to pay off. Congratulations Mustangs!
