The Penn Yan Mustang baseball team continues their winning ways in South Carolina. The Mustangs traveled to Myrtle Beach, S. C. to compete in the Mingo Bay Baseball Classic over the spring recess. After dropping their opener to Sodus 11-0, the Orange and Blue have found their Carolina feet and reeled off two straight wins.

Penn Yan 12 Sauquoit Valley 8

On Wednesday, Penn Yan defeated Oneida County's Sauquoit Valley 12-8. Donnie McMahon picked up the win on the mound, yielding just 4 earned runs while scattering 8 hits. McMahon struck out 3 Sauquoit Valley batters. Robbie Wigsten wrapped up the victory with a strikeout.

Senior Jake Whitford was the hitting star for the Orange and Blue. He went two for two at the plate and scored 3 runs. Whitford had 3 RBI's and stole a base. Derrick Riviello, Robbie Wigsten, and Noah Detar also collected hits for Penn Yan.

Penn Yan 10 Bishop Grimes 0

Thursday afternoon, Penn Yan shutout Bishop Grimes 10-0. Derrick Riviello shutout the Cobras from Syracuse allowing only 3 hits. Peyton Schuck led the Mustang attack with 2 hits. Senior Jake Whitford continued his torrid hitting performance driving in 4 runs.

The win improved Penn Yan's overall season record to 4-1. They are 2-0 in Finger Lakes East League play. The Mustangs will finish their southern swing on Friday with a game before heading back home. They will continue FL East action next week.
