The New York State High School cross country meet, featuring cross country runners from high school from all over the state, was held at Wayne High School Saturday. Locally, the Marcus Whitman Wildcat and Penn Yan Mustang boy’s cross country programs had runners qualifying for the all-day event.
Penn Yan’s Ben DeMoras qualified for the state event on the strength of his second-place finish in the Wayne/Finger Lakes meet last Friday. Competing with 130 other runners, DeMoras came in 63rd place.
The Marcus Whitman Wildcat contingent of athletes enjoyed a very successful day. Also competing in Class C, the Wildcat boy’s finished in 4th overall among the 11 competing teams with 120 points. Mount Academy finished first with 50 points, Watkins Glen second with 67 points, and Newfane came in 3rd place with 79 points. Whitman’s senior runner, Gabe Stash was the Wildcat’s best finisher. He came in 24th place. Freshman Aidan Royston finished in 39th place, while teammate sophomore Liam Prendergast garnered a 49th place finish. Alex Lyons and Kayden Kays finished in 61st and 85th respectively.
