The Penn Yan Mustang girl’s basketball team picked up their first win of the season Dec. 15 in Penn Yan.

Penn Yan 61 Waterloo 59

The Orange and Blue entered the win column in dramatic fashion. Peyton Comfort scored from close range at the buzzer to give Penn Yan a huge 61-59 victory over Finger Lakes East foe Waterloo. The win improved Penn Yan’s early season record to 1-2. They are 1-1 in Finger Lakes East League play.

Sydney Bloom topped the Mustang scoring ledger with 16 points. Peyton Comfort added 15 points including the big game winner. She also pulled down 7 rebounds. Joddie Decker chipped in 8 points while Hanna Keech and Jenna Curbeau added 6 points each. Curbeau also recorded 14 rebounds. Emma Harling and Logan Broome tallied 5 points each.

Hornell 62 Penn Yan 45

The Penn Yan girls opened the non-league portion of their schedule Dec. 12 in Hornell. The Red Raiders defeated Penn Yan 62-45.

The contest was closely fought in the first two quarters and featured scoring runs by both teams. The Mustang girls grabbed a 41-39 lead at the 4-minute mark of the third quarter on the strength of a 9-0 scoring run. But Hornell answered with a 10-point run of their own to take a 51-41 lead after three quarters and cruised in the final stanza to the 62-45 victory.

Bloomfield 47 Marcus Whitman 43

Bloomfield topped Marcus Whitman 47-43 in a Finger Lakes West girl’s basketball game in Gorham Dec. 13. Jordan Chappelle was Whitman’s top scorer with 17 points. Emily Thompson added 11 points. Katrina Meyer and Danni Bagley scored 4 points each.

Marcus Whitman 53 N. Rose-Wolcott 24

The Wildcat girls basketball team rolled over North Rose-Wolcott 53-24 in a Finger Lakes West contest played in Gorham Dec. 12.

Jordyn Chappelle topped the Whitman scoring with 22 points. She also pulled down 5 rebounds. Emily Thompson added 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 steals for Marcus Whitman.
