The Penn Yan Mustang bowling teams opened the 2018 portion of their season Jan. 2 in Penn Yan. Unfortunately for the Mustang keglers, it would open on a bit of a sour note. Newark came to town at swept the Orange and Blue bowlers 4-0 at Brock’s Bowl.

The Newark girls team compiled 2,684 total pins to Penn Yan’s 2,242 enroute to their 4-0 victory. Kari Ayers was Penn Yan’s top bowler, rolling a 552 series (189-170-193). Emilie Thomas added a 464 series (162) and Brandee Ellis chipped in a 456 (158). The Penn Yan girls fall to 20-8 on the season with the shutout loss.

The Mustang boy’s team also fell to the visiting Reds 4-0. Newark tallied 2,865 pins to Penn Yan’s 2,583. Cameron Bassage led Penn Yan with a 603 series (223-210). Zack Blauvelt added a 511 series (181-175) while teammate Jon Mashewske rolled a 506 series (181-171). The Mustang boys fall to 19-9 with the setback.
