The new year started on a high note for the Penn Yan Mustang girl’s basketball program. Fresh off their impressive Bath Tournament win over the Christmas holiday break, the Orange and Blue continued their winning ways, defeated a talented Mynderse team 59-53 in Penn Yan Tuesday evening. It was Penn Yan’s fourth straight win. They are in second place in the Finger Lakes East, just one game behind first-place Midlakes. The win improved their season mark to 6-3.

The Penn Yan five used a strong third quarter to capture Tuesday night’s victory over the stubborn Blue Devil girls. Trailing by 4 points at the half, Penn Yan outscored their Seneca County guests 21-8 in the third stanza to pull away to the key win. Senior Sydney Bloom continued her stellar play, netting 16 points and pulling down 8 rebounds to pace the Mustang attack. Jenna Curbeau posted her best performance of the season scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds. Hannah Keech added 10 points to Penn Yan’s winning numbers.
