The Penn Yan Mustang boy’s basketball team suffered their first Finger Lakes East League loss of the season against Midlakes in Penn Yan Jan. 16. The Mustangs fell behind the Screaming Eagles 22-6 in the first half and never could recover. Midlakes walked off with a 62-55 victory. Penn Yan falls to 4-1 in FL East play and 9-2 overall.

The Mustangs mounted a comeback attempt in this game but fell just short as the final horn sounded. The Orange and Blue offense was led by three seniors. Desmond Battin, Dylan Stape, and Ben Emerson tallied 14 points each for the Mustangs. Emerson’s totals included 4 three-pointers.

Marcus Whitman 65 Dundee 44

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat boy’s basketball team rolled to their seventh straight Finger Lakes West League victory in Dundee Jan. 16. The Wildcats defeated the hometown Scots 65-46 to remain undefeated in the West. Whitman is 9-2 overall. The Scots fall to 1-7 in the league and 3-7 overall.

The Wildcat victory was led by a 21 point performance by Riley McLoud. Liam Prendergast added 17 points to Whitman’s winning numbers. Austin Gibson topped the Dundee scoring sheet with 11 points. Robbie Clark chipped in 9 points.

Hornell 64 Penn Yan 56

The Penn Yan Mustang girl’s basketball team dropped a 64-56 decision to Hornell in a non-league contest played in Penn Yan Jan. 17. The defeat dropped Penn Yan’s season mark to 7-5 overall. They are 5-2 in the Finger Lakes East.

Senior Sydney Bloom led the Mustang girls in scoring with 18 points. Emma Harling added 12 points while Jenna Curbeau chipped in 11 points. Up next for the Orange and Blue cagers, a FL East game with Pal-Mac in Penn Yan Friday evening.

Marcus Whitman 68 Dundee 29

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat girl’s basketball team easily defeated Dundee 68-29 in Gorham Jan. 17. Whitman improved their Finger Lakes West record to 5-4 with the win. They are 7-5 overall. Dundee falls to 0-9 in West League play and are 0-11 overall.

Jordyn Chappelle topped the Wildcat girls in scoring with 28 points. She also pulled down 8 rebounds. Ari Beverly added 13 points and 7 assists. Emily Thompson chipped in 12 points and also added 6 rebounds. MacKenzie Strait accounted for 16 of Dundee’s 29 points.
