Wildcats upset LeRoy 54-53 on Riley McLoud buzzer-beater

In the game of basketball which is measured by a clock, a second can sometimes seem like an eternity, and a final result can chance in a blink of an eye. Such was the case on Friday night’s quarter-final Class C1 game featuring the #5 seed Marcus Whitman Wildcats against the #4 seed boys from LeRoy. The game was closely fought through its entirety with numerous lead changes. LeRoy grabbed a 53-51 lead with time rapidly running out. Whitman’s Riley McLoud launched a 3-point jumper as the clock turned to zeros. The desperation bucket went in. In a tick of the clock, Marcus Whitman walked off with an exciting 54-53 victory. The win was Whitman’s 18th in 21 tries and with the upset win, they will play another day.

The goal of course for the Wildcats is to win the Section V Class C1 championship. But their post-season does not get any easier. They will take on the #1 seed Northstar Christian team Monday night. They earned their way to the semi-finals with a strong 99-59 win over East Rochester. The winner of this game will take on the winner of #2 Pembroke against #6 Avon.
