The Penn Yan Mustang baseball team scored their first Finger Lakes East League win of the new season April 6. What made this initial victory a little different was the location. The Orange and Blue nine defeated their FL East foe Newark in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The win was the final game played by the local boys during their spring break trip to the south. The Mustangs used a strong pitching performance by senior Donny McMahon. The talented Mustang hurler went the distance to pick up the win. Battery mate Peyton Schuck provided the offense to spark the win. He delivered two hits, including a key triple to fire up the Penn Yan offense. Noah Detar scored two of the Penn Yan runs. The win gives the Mustangs a 1-0 record in the Finger Lakes East. They will see plenty of league action in the days ahead. For their upcoming games, the setting will be featuring a little more northern exposure.

The Mustang baseball team concluded their South Carolina trip with a respectable 2-2 record. They dropped a 10-1 decision to a very talented team from North Lincoln, N. C. Thursday. This game was much closer than the final score indicates. Behind the strong pitching of Greg Hoke, the Mustangs stayed close to their North Carolina hosts. North Lincoln pulled away in the final two innings.

Earlier in their trip, Penn Yan defeated Hazard, Ky. 10-5 and dropped a 11-9 decision to Petersburg, West Virginia.
