Penn Yan 11 Waterloo 8
The Penn Yan Mustang softball team picked up their second Finger Lakes East League win April 12 in Waterloo. The Orange and Blue softball girls built a 10-6 lead over the hometown tribe and held on for an 11-8 victory. Kayla Anderson was the winning pitcher for Penn Yan. She registered 3 strikeouts to gain the win. The Mustang offense was sparked by Mel Gleason 2 for 5 with a triple and 2 for 3 efforts by Jess Rossi and Andrianna Rodriguez. Senior Hannah Yonts also provided a 2 RBI double.
Penn Yan improves their league record to 2-1. They are 2-3 overall.
Mynderse 9 Penn Yan 7
The Penn Yan Mustang softball team dropped a 9-7 decision to Mynderse in Seneca Falls April 10. Kayla Anderson struck out 3 Blue Devil batters for Penn Yan. Serina Sheridan led the Orange and Blue in hitting. She went 2-for-4 including a double and a triple.
Red Jacket 15 Marcus Whitman 6
The Marcus Whitman Wildcat softball team dropped a 15-6 decision to Red Jacket April 10 in Gorham. Whitman’s Amber LeMay collected 2 hits for the Wildcat girls. She also recorded 7 strikeouts in the circle for Whitman.
Marcus Whitman 3 Penn Yan 2
The Penn Yan Mustang boy’s tennis team opened their 2018 season April 11 in Gorham. The host Wildcats picked up 2 wins in the singles matches and another in the doubles to post a 3-2 victory. Justice Newell and Nate McPike scored wins in their singles matches. Alex Theismeyer picked up a win in his singles match for the Mustangs. The Wildcat double team of Daxon Rohring and Jackson Snaith also picked up a team point for the Wildcats. Penn Yan’s double duo of Jeremy Fenton and Reid Castner scored a win for the Mustangs. Penn Yan opens the new season 0-1. The Whitman Wildcats improved their league mark to 2-0. They are 2-3 overall.

The Marcus Whitman boys shutout Newark 5-0 April 10. Justice Newell, Nevin Walters, and Nate McPike picked up straight set wins in their singles matches for the Wildcats. The Wildcat doubles teams of Jackson Snaith/Zach Dean and Cameron Clark/Brandon Strait also scored wins for the Whitman Wildcats.
Red Jacket 11 Marcus Whitman 2
The Marcus Whitman Wildcat baseball team fell to Red Jacket 11 -2 in Gorham April 10. Dylan Howell paced the Wildcat offense with a hit and 2 rbi’s. Luke Bassett tossed 2 innings picking one strikeout for Wildcats.
Track & Field
The Penn Yan Mustang track and field teams opened their 2018 on Wednesday at Pal-Mac, competing with teams from Dundee, Romulus, South Seneca, and host Pal-Mac.
The Orange and Blue athletes enjoyed a very successful opening meet. For the Orange and Blue girl’s team, Penn Yan’s Joddie Decker scored first-place finishes in the 1500 and 3000 events. Emma Harling won the shot put event.
In the boy’s competition, Penn Yan’s Kyle Ingerick scored three first-place finishes. He won the 100M, long jump, and triple jump events for Penn Yan. Ben DeMoras scored first-place finishes in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m events.
Pal-Mac 18 Penn Yan 5
The Penn Yan Mustang girl’s lacrosse team suffered their first setback of the new season April 12 in Palmyra. The Orange and Blue lady laxers dropped an 18-5 decision to the home Red Raider girls.
Hannah Keech tallied a 3 goal hat trick for Penn Yan. Sydney Bloom scored the other 2 Penn Yan goals. Alex Cox registered 8 saves in the nets for Penn Yan. The Mustang girl’s record stands at 2-1 overall and 0-1 in Finger Lakes League play.
