The Penn Yan Mustang baseball team quickly rebounded after their first Finger Lakes East loss. The Mustangs dropped their first game in the Finger Lakes East league at Wayne earlier in the week. On Friday afternoon at home, the Orange and Blue quickly righted their ship by shutting out the visiting Geneva Panthers 5-0.

The senior duo of Donny McMahon and Greg Hoke teamed up to blank the Geneva nine. McMahon tossed the first 5 innings to gain the mound win. He scattered 3 hits and struck out 8 batters. Greg Hoke retired 6 straight Geneva batters in the 6th and 7th innings. He registered 2 strikeouts.

Offensively, the Mustangs got hits from Derrick Riviello, Peyton Schuck, Brennan Prather, Donny McMahon, and Brandon Sherman. Riviello, Schuck, and Sherman picked up RBI’s for the Orange and Blue.

The victory improves Penn Yan’s Finger Lakes East record to 5-1. They are 7-3 overall..

Marcus Whitman 11 Naples 5

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat baseball team defeated Naples 11-5 in a Finger Lakes West game played in Gorham April 26. The Wildcats broke a 3-3 tie with a 3-run outburst in the 4th inning. Whitman cruised to the league win from that point.

Parker Smith gained the win scattering 5 hits and striking out 11. He also went 2 for 3 at the dish, scoring a run and driving in four. Dylan Howell also went 2-for-3 with 4 rbi’s. Kyle Copper was a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles. Copper scored 3 runs and drove in another.

The Penn Yan Mustang softball team dropped an 8-0 decision to Geneva in a Finger Lakes East contest played in Penn Yan April 27. The loss evened Penn Yan’s league record at 4-4. They are 4-6 overall. For Penn Yan, Serina Sheridan connected with a double.

Romulus 11 Dundee 10 (10 Innings)

In a Finger Lakes West League tilt played in Dundee April 27, first place Romulus barely escaped an upset, defeating the hometown Dundee girls 11-10 in 10 innings. The Warrior girls came to Dundee sporting a perfect 4-0 record. The Dundee softball crew was searching for their first win. But it took some last minute heroics for the Romulus girls to leave town with a win. Dundee falls to 0-4 with the loss. McKenzie Strait collected 5 hits in 6 tries for Dundee. Hailee Empson went 3 for 4.
