In a battle of Section V high school lacrosse powers, Fairport defeated Penn Yan 6-3 in Fairport May 10. The hometown Red Raiders rushed out to a 5-1 lead at the half and held on for the non-league victory. Penn Yan falls to 7-4 with the loss. Fairport won their 9th game in 13 tries.

Conner Fingar, Colton Smith, and Austin Blumbergs scored the Mustang goals. Blumbergs added an assist. Jeff Kinyoun had 8 saves in goal for the Orange and Blue.

Marcus Whitman 15 Bloomfield/Honeoye 12

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat boy’s lacrosse team scored a 15-12 win over Bloomfield/Honeoye

In the opening round of the Finger Lakes League Tournament played in Gorham on Thursday. Schuyler Bredesen tallied 5 goals to lead the Wildcat scoring barrage. Ezera Jones added 4 goals. Rounding out the Whitman scoring ledger was Timmy Cornish (2 goals/3 assists), Ryan Herod (1 goal/2 assists), Jordan Lahue (1 goal), and DeCouteau Blueye ( 2 goals). Michael Dhondt had 11 saves in goal for Marcus Whitman (6-8). Robert Craine played the final 12 minutes in the nets for the Wildcats.

Girl's Lacrosse

Waterloo 10 Penn Yan 4

In a battle for first place in the Finger Lakes League, the Waterloo Indian girl’s lacrosse defeated Penn Yan 10-4 in Waterloo May 9. The loss drops Penn Yan’s season mark to 9-4. Waterloo improves to 11-2. The hometown Indians held a slight 3-2 lead at the half but pulled away in the second half with a 7 goal outburst.

Elissa Callaway scored 2 goals for Penn Yan. Hannah Keech and Logan Broome tallied the other two Penn Yan goals. Sydney Bloom added 3 assists. Alex Cox was stellar in the Mustang nets, recording 13 saves.

Marcus Whitman 15 Gananda 3

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat girl’s lacrosse team scored a convincing 15-3 win over Gananda on Wednesday afternoon. Emily Thompson led the Whitman scoring attack with 7 goals and an assist. Ellie Nemitz and Charlotte Alvord added 4 goals and 3 goals respectively to the Whitman winning numbers. Katrina Marten also scored a goal. Kelsey Tiffany dished out 4 assists.
