Penn Yan 12 Pal-Mac 5

The Penn Yan Mustang baseball team jumped back on the winning track May 11 in Palmyra. The Mustang nine defeated the Red Raiders 12-5 to record their 8th Finger Lakes East League win in 12 tries. The Orange and Blue diamond crew is 11-5 overall.

Penn Yan quickly gained control of Friday’s league contest scoring 6 runs in the top of the first inning. They added 3 more runs in the 2nd inning and 3 more in the sixth en route to the win over the Raiders.

Greg Hoke picked up the win on the mound for Penn Yan with Donny McMahon picking up a save. McMahon also had a big day at the plated banging out 4 hits. Brennan Prather added 2 hits. Greg Hoke, Josh Smith, and Peyton Schuck collected 2 RBI’s each.

Naples 12 Marcus Whitman 1

The Big Green of Naples defeated Marcus Whitman 12-1 in a Finger Lakes West League game played in Naples May 9. Chrysler Taylor went 2-for-3 with a double. Jacob Hill also collected 2 hits for the Wildcats. Luke Bassett, Riley McLoud, Roman Ocampo, and Austin Webster also had hits for Whitman (7-6, 5-4).

Softball

The Penn Yan Mustang softball team played two Finger Lakes East League games last week and picked one win and one loss.

Newark 6 Penn Yan 4

In Newark May 9 the hometown Newark Reds defeated Penn Yan 6-4. The Mustang girls scored 4 runs in the final two innings to pull to within two runs, but it would prove too be too little, too late. Kayla Andersen struck out 6 Newark batters and also delivered a double at bat for Penn Yan. Akyia Brewer went 2-for-3 and had an RBI. Elle Harrison also collected 2 hits in 3 times up.

Penn Yan 10 Pal-Mac 8

Friday afternoon in Palmyra, the Orange and Blue softball crew defeated Pal-Mac 10-8. Hannah Yonts was the winning pitcher for Penn Yan. Melanie Gleason went 2-for-4 including a big homerun. She also drove in 2 runs. Serina Sheridan also went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Marcus Whitman 11 Bloomfield 5

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat softball team defeated Bloomfield twice in a Finger Lakes West doubleheader played in Bloomfield May 11. Whitman downed the Bombers 11-5 in the first game. Alyn Watts was the winning pitcher for the Wildcat girls, recording 6 strikeouts. Leah Preston went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI’s for Whitman. Jenalee Forgue delivered 2 hits including an RBI double.

Marcus Whitman 17 Bloomfield 7

In the nightcap, Marcus Whitman downed Bloomfield 17-7. Amber LeMay was the victorious pitcher for Whitman, striking out 9 Bloomfield batters. Athena Saxton scored 3 runs and had 2 RBI’s and 2 stolen bases for the Wildcats. Katrina Meyer went 3-for-5 with two doubles. Tamarah VanOpdurp also had 2 doubles in the Whitman win.

Romulus 14 Marcus Whitman 5

Earlier in the week, Romulus downed Marcus Whitman 14-5 in a Finger Lakes West game played in Gorham May 9. Katrina Meyer had a run, scoring triple for Whitman. Lilly Chrysler collected 2 hits also.

Dundee 7 South Seneca 3

The Dundee Scot softball team defeated South Seneca 7-3 in the second game of a doubleheader played in Dundee May 10. Hailee Empson went 2 for 3 for Dundee. Bri Maloy drove in 2 runs.

South Seneca 6 Dundee

South Seneca won the first game of this Finger Lakes West twin bill. They defeated the hometown Scot girls 6-5. Alyssa Newell collect 3 hits for Dundee in this contest. Bri Maloy also picked up a hit.

Red Jacket 10 Dundee 4

Red Jacket 8 Dundee 6

Earlier in the week, Dundee dropped a doubleheader to Red Jacket May 9 in Shortsville by scores of 10-4 and 8-6. McKenzie Strait collected 2 hits in each of these games for Dundee.

The Dundee Scot softball finished the week with a 3-10 record in the league.

Seneca Fall 3 Penn Yan 2

In Seneca Falls May 11, the Mynderse Blue Devils edged Penn Yan 3-2. Alex Theismeyer picked up a win in his singles match as did the Mustang doubles team of Brian Hollister and Reid Castner.

Geneva 4 Penn Yan 1

The Penn Yan Mustang boy’s tennis team suffered a 4-1 setback to Geneva May 10 in Penn Yan. Alex Theismeyer picked up the sole Mustang team point with a win in his singles match.

Bloomfield 4 Penn Yan 1

In Bloomfield, May 9 Penn Yan also dropped a 4-1 decision to the hometown Bombers. The Mustang doubles team of Spencer Christensen and Reid Castner scored a victory for Penn Yan.

Mynderse 3 Marcus Whitman 2

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat boy’s tennis team dropped a 3-2 decision to Mynderse in Gorham May 9. Jackson Snaith picked up a victory for the Wildcats in his singles match. The Whitman doubles team of Nevin Walters and Devon Rohring also scored a Wildcat win.
