The Penn Yan Mustang boy’s lacrosse team defeated Waterloo 17-2 in a quarter-final Class D game played at Mustang Field May 23. With the victory, the Mustangs will advance to the Section V Class D semi-finals against Bath-Haverling Saturday morning at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School. The Mustangs are the #1 seed in the bracket and the Bath Rams are the #5 seed. Saturday’s game time is scheduled for 11 a.m.
The Mustang win over Waterloo was sparked by a 5 goal/ 1 assist performance by Colton Smith. Conner Fingar added 4 goals and 4 assists while Mustang teammate Ayden Mowry chipped in 3 goals and an assist. Rounding out the winning Orange and Blue scoring ledger was Austin Blumbergs (2 goals /3 assists), Mekhi Mahan (1 goal), Dylan Stape (1 goal/1 assist), Chase Blumbergs (1 goal), and Devon Gerhardt (1 assist). Jeff Kinyoun recorded 2 saves in the nets for Penn Yan. Keith Fuller played the final 5 minutes in goal for the Mustangs. Waterloo tallied 2 goals in the first quarter but was shut out the rest of the way by the Mustang defense. Penn Yan put this contest out of reach in the first half rushing out to a 11-2 lead by halftime.
