The Penn Yan Mustang boy’s golf team scored two more victories this week to improve their early season record to 3-0.

Penn Yan 228, Newark 285

On Monday, Aug. 27, the Mustangs defeated Newark 228-285 at Lakeside Country Club in Penn Yan. Peter Nicholson and Kevin Smith both birdied the par 4 second hole. Nicholson carded a 39 to lead the Orange and Blue golfers. Kevin Smith shot a 43. Teammate Max Brodman came in with a 44.

Penn Yan 233, Wayne 234

Penn Yan scored their third straight league win Tuesday, Aug. 28, edging Wayne 233-234 at Lakeside Country Club. Clayton Koivuneimi topped the Mustang squad shooting a 43. Peter Nicholson finished just behind him with a 44. Max Brodman and Cameron Bassage ended the match shooting 47 and 48 respectively.

Girl’s Tennis

Penn Yan 4, Midlakes 0

The Penn Yan Mustang girl’s tennis team opened their 2018 season on a positive note, shutting out Midlakes 4-0 in Phelps Aug. 27. Molly Pullen, Claire Pullen, and Sam Denson swept their singles matches, all three winning in straight sets (6-0, 6-0 ). Midlakes did not field doubles teams. Penn Yan’s Abby Garvey and Sydney Moravec accepted a forfeit win in the first doubles match. Penn Yan opens the season at 1-0.

Marcus Whitman 3, Pal-Mac 2

The Marcus Whitman Wildcat girl’s tennis team scored a 3-2 victory over Pal-Mac in Palmyra in their 2018 season opener Aug. 27. Whitman picked up two key singles wins from Camry Semans and Jane Snaith. A doubles win from the team of Rebecca Frarey and Caty Goodman sealed the deal for the Marcus Whitman squad.
