PENN YAN — In a tightly fought game between two evenly matched teams, the Penn Yan Mustang girls basketball team dropped a heartbreaking 56-54 decision to Pal-Mac in Penn Yan on Friday evening.
The hometown Mustang girls jumped to a 23-21 halftime lead, but saw their margin disappear in the second half with a Red Raider rally. A halfcourt bucket at the end of the third quarter was the big blow for Pal-Mac. They took the lead for good from that point on.
Rachel Roddenbery had a big scoring evening for Penn Yan with 28 points. Emily Simpson added 7 points and Chelsie Travis 6 for the Lady Mustangs. Kate Disbrow dished out 6 assists and hauled down 5 rebounds for Penn Yan.
The talented Roddenbery continued to shine offensively for Penn Yan with her torrid scoring effort. She was named the Birdseye Food Player of the Week for the first week in January. The Lady Mustang’s Finger Lakes East record evens out a 3-3.
They are 6-4 overall.

In a low scoring game, Waterloo held Whitman to just 1 point in the second quarter enroute to a 38-28 win over the Lady Wildcats in Gorham on friday night. Megan Robson scored 10 of Whitman’s 28 points. andrea Eckert added 6 points. Marcus Whitman’s season record falls to 5-5 overall. They are 1-5 in the Finger Lakes East.
