Mustang grapplers defeat Mynderse 39-24; Scots win too

The Penn Yan Mustang Wrestling team continued their season-long improvement, scoring a 39-24 victory over Mynderse in Penn Yan last Thursday.
The Mustangs put this match away picking up 18 of the last 21 points in the match.
Taylor Miller (145 lbs.) scored a victory by fall to break a 21-21 tie and send the Orange and Blue matsmen to the win. John Martisch (152 lbs.) and Colin Phillips (171 lbs.) also registered wins by pins. Josh Pillsbury (189 lbs.), Ray Mashewske (215 lbs.) and Aaaron Bodine (130 lbs.) scored wins their matches by decision.
Earlier in the week, the Mustangs dropped a 40-33 non-league decision to Waterloo on Tuesday in Waterloo.
Miles Snyder (135 lbs.), John Martisch (152 lbs.), Colin Phillips (171 lbs.), and Bobby Galusha (285 lbs.) registered wins by fall for Penn Yan. Tyler Peacock also picked up a win by decision in the 160 lbs. weight class. Penn Yan’s overall record stands at 14-19.
Over the weekend, the Mustangs competed in the Mike Watson Invitational Tournament in Watkins Glen. Penn Yan finished in 15th place out of 24 teams.  They registered 71 total points.
 
Dundee 37
Red Creek 12

The Dundee Scotsmen wrestlers improved their record to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the Finger Lakes West with a 37-12 victory over Red Creek in Dundee on Tuesday. 
Nick Raplee (152 lbs.) and  Dustyn Thompson (171 lbs.) scored wins in their matches by pins. Lucas Chappell also picked up a win by decision in the 130 lbs. match.
The Scotsmen grapplers competed in the Hammondsport Canoe Landing Invitational over the weekend.
Nick Raplee won the 152 lbs. title and Patric Perez the 285 lbs. class for Dundee. In the 215 lbs. class, Travis Howell came in third place and Kevin Howell fourth. Dundee’s Stephen Chappell garnered a third place finish in the 189 lbs. class.
 
North Rose/Wolcott 52
Marcus Whitman 22

In other local wrestling action last week, Marcus Whitman dropped a 52-22 decision to North Rose/Wolcott on Thursday in Wolcott. Josh Spina (103 lbs.), Dakota Orbacker (112 lbs.), and Evander Russ (189 lbs.) picked up wins for Whitman by pins.
On Saturday, Whitman’s Dakota Robarge (160 lbs.) and Tyler Brahm (285 lbs.) scored first place finishes in the Robert Bradshaw Invitational Tournament in Canandaigua. The annual Bradshaw Tournament features some of the top wrestling teams in the state. Robarge won his weight class with a 5-3 decision win in the championship match. Tyler Brahm picked up his first place title with a pin.  
 The Whitman team finished in 10th place overall with 65 points.
