The Dundee Scots Boy’s Basketball forces improved their record to 7-1 overall, 4-1 in the Finger Lakes West I with two wins last week. On Tuesday evening in Geneva, the Scotsmen outscored DeSales 18-5 in the final quarter to blow open a relatively close game and cruise to an easy 65-39 win.
The Scots led the game 47-34 going into the final quarter. The 18-5 run effectively KOed the Saints.
Garrick Conyers notched 11 points for Dundee, but game scoring honors went to the plaid tandem of Ryan Ballard and Joe Tortolon. They scored 14 points each.
The Scottish Cagers completed their perfect week on Thursday at home with a 59-52 win over Honeoye in a Finger Lakes West I showdown. Dundee rushed to a 32-15 lead at the half but had to hold off a second half Bulldog rush to ensure the win. Conyers tallied 15 points to lead the Dundee scorers. Tom Pratt added 14 points and Joe Tortolon 10.
Jordan Elbridge 64
Penn Yan 63
The Penn Yan Mustang Boy’s Basketball team returned to action after the Christmas holiday break still looking for their first win of the season.
The young Orange and Blue cagers continued to show improvement but unfortunately that elusive first “W” remained just out of reach. Penn Yan traveled to Jordan on Wednesday to take on Jordan-Elbridge in a non-league contest.
After grabbing a 14-8 first quarter lead, things were looking good for the local five. But the upstart Mustangs could not keep up the positive pace, falling behind 46-40 after three quarters. The hometown Jordanians expanded their margin to 11 points with a little over four minutes remaining.
But the pesky Mustangs made a spirited attempt to get back into this contest. They crawled back to within one point 64-63 in the waning seconds. But a last ditch chance for a game winning bucket clanked off the back iron at the buzzer.
A disappointed, yet hard working Mustang team fell to Jordan Elbridge 64-63.
Ryan Morehouse led the Penn Yan attack with 17 points. Myles Volz added 14 points. The Orange and Blue tandem of Anthony Luppino and Jim Burdette chipped in 10 points each.
Midlakes 39
Penn Yan 36
The Penn Yan roundball quintet returned to Finger Lakes East action Friday evening in Phelps against the Midlakes Screaming Eagles. Once again, the Orange and Blue cagers would find themselves on the short side of the scoreboard.
This was a nip and tuck affair much like the first time they played in Penn Yan in December. With the game on the line, the Midlakes five salted the game away with a couple of free throws and a steal with just 11 seconds remaining. Once again, Penn Yan dropped a close contest to Midlakes 39-36.
In the early going, the Mustangs once again jumped to an early 15-10 first quarter lead. But as has been the pattern this season, they could not contain the hometown Eagles down the stretch resulting in another close, disappointing loss.
Jim Burdette tossed in 20 points to pace the Orange and Blue attack. Myles Volz added 6 points while Anthony Luppino and Ryan Morehouse chipped 4 points each.
Geneva 72
Marcus Whitman 63
In other local high school boy’s basketball action last week, the Panthers from Geneva built up a 58-41 lead after three quarters and held on for a 72-63 win over Marcus Whitman on Friday night in Geneva.
The league loss dropped the Wildcats’ record in the league to 1-4. They are 3-6 overall.
Cal Andrews was the Whitman top point getter with 24 points. Jesse Moore added 18 points and Jared Lyons 8.
