The Penn Yan Mustang Girl’s Basketball squad started the first full week of 2010, winning one game and losing one.
On Tuesday in Geneva, the Penn Yan girls showed a little post-holiday rust. Geneva used a full court press in the first half to race to an 18 point halftime lead, 35-17.
But the Orange and Blue got back into a positive game rhythm in the third quarter and tried to get back into this contest. However, the large early deficit proved to be too much for the local girls. Geneva held on for the 63-51 win.
Rachel Roddenbery, Penn Yan’s sex foot tall talented forward, had the big scoring night for the Mustangs, registering 20 points. Kate Disbrow added 12 points.

The Lady Mustangs bounced back in a big way on Friday evening at home against Midlakes.
Penn Yan once again started slowly in this contest falling behind 18-13 at the half, but this would prove to be a different night for the Mustangs.
They rallied in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 40-16 to pull away with the big 53-34 Finger Lakes East win.
Chelsie Travis tossed in 11 points and also pulled down six rebounds to pace the Orange and Blue offense. Roddenbery added 10 points in the win.
Penn Yan improved their season record to 6-2 overall, 3-2 in the Finger Lakes East.

The Dundee Scots Girl’s Basketball team improved their Finger Lakes West I record to 4-1 and remained in a three-way tie for first place in the league with two wins last week.
On Wednesday in Dundee, the Lady Scots used a 10-2 run in the third quarter to reverse a 5-point halftime deficit.
The strong second half defensive effort propelled the hometown Scots to a 38-30 win over the visiting Blue Devils.
Casi Strait led the way offensively for Dundee with 14 points. Katie Zebrowski controlled the boards for Dundee, pulling down 18 rebounds.

Honeoye 33
On Friday in Honeoye, Dundee eased away from their Bulldog hosts after trailing 11-7 in the first quarter.
Dundee outscored Honeoye 45-33 after the first quarter en route to a 52-44 win.
Strait scored 33 of Dundee’s 52 points. Sami Clingerman added 9 points and Zebrowski 4.
Marcus Whitman 51
Geneva 49
The Whitman Wildcat Girl’s Basketball team started the new year with a thrilling 51-49 victory over Geneva in Rushville.
The Wildcats used a 20-13 spurt in the final quarter to nail down the huge win over an always tough Geneva team.
Megan Robson led the Wildcat scoring with 16 points.
Andrea Eckert and Hannah Barnett contributed 13 and 6 points respectively.
The big upset win gave Whitman their first Finger Lakes East win of the season after three early losses. Their overall record improved to 5-4.
