South Seneca 57, Naples 20

Almost mirroring a 56-20 loss to Bloomfield in their last game, Naples dropped another one this season, this time to South Seneca, putting the struggling Big Green at 0-6 for the winter. Chloe Scott led Seneca with 27 points, with Ciera Babcock scoring 16. For the Green, Grace Hebding had eight points, three rebounds and two steals and Polly Bay had six points, two rebounds and three steals. Seneca moved up to 3-1 with the win.

Dec. 28 Newark Valley 46, Penn Yan 20

In the first round of the Haverling Rams’ Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament, Newark Valley defeated Penn Yan, dropping the Mustangs to 1-6.

Dec. 29 Wellsville 54, Penn Yan 27

Wellsville took the win in the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament consolation round, knocking Penn Yan down to 1-7 this winter.

Marcus Whitman 58, Wayland-Cohocton 14 Whitman slaughtered WayCo at the Avoca-Prattsburgh Tourney, beating the Eagles by 44 points. The win put the Wildcats at 5-1.

Boys Swimming

Dec. 21 Naples 76, Williamson/Sodus 74

Naples beat Williamson/Sodus by just two points, securing their second win of the season. Naples had wins from Lukas Hall in the 50 Free (24.49) and 100 Free (56.08), Owen Yates in the 500 Free (6:15) and Grady Grove in Diving. Williamson/Sodus took the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle Relays and had wins with Lucas Monroe in the 200 Free (2:06) and 100 Back (1:05) and Matt Hogg in the 200 IM (2:29) and 100 Butterfly (1:12).

Dec. 22 Pal-Mac 113, Marcus Whitman 46

Yet to get a winning meet this season, Whitman fell with a big loss to Pal-Mac, dropping the Wildcats to 0-7 this season. Palmyra-Macedon won the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle Relays and had individual wins from Avery Fedor in the 200 Free (2:02), George Newsome in the 200 IM (2:14) and 500 Free (5:13), Brendon Trapiss in Diving, Evan Sousa in the 100 Free (54.32) and Jaydon Anthony in the 100 Breast (1:16). Whitman took the 400 Freestyle Relay and had wins with Brendan Laity in the 50 Free (24.20) and 100 Butterfly (1:01) and Zach Lincoln in the 100 Back (1:05).

Wrestling

Dec. 29 at Geneva High School Geneva 52, Dundee 18 Byron-Bergen 47, Dundee 24

Dundee took losses to both competitors in Thursday’s double matchup in Geneva. Geneva took wins with Colin McGhan over Harvey Tongate (3:56 fall), Owen Loan over Christopher Dillon (1:18 fall), Jayden Jackson over Marcus Chilson (3:20 fall), Cameron Monahan over Zachary Grant (2:25 technical), Travis Arno over Michael Eaves (3:32 technical), Gianni Valazquez over Caden Hill (5:46 fall), Antonio Pesante over Logan Snyder (0:57 fall), Dominick Russ over Caleb Bartlett. Dundee won matches with Connor Erick over Chi Chi Delvalle (0:10 fall), Gage Machuga over Seth Margeson (3:45 fall) and Gavin Hall over Jack Cunningham (4:42 fall).

Individual results were unavailable for Dundee’s match against Byron-Bergen.

Boys Bowling

Dec. 20 Midlakes 5, Naples 0

The Big Green lost to Midlakes by all five points. The Eagles’ Gavin Burnett had the match’s top series of 581, including the match’s top two highest games at 224 and 199. Also for Midlakes, Jeremy Myhill bowled a 490 series with a high game of 179. The top bowler for Naples was Eli Abraham, who bowled a 495 series, with the team’s two highest games of 192 and 188. Naples was 1-2 with the loss.

Dec. 22 Marcus Whitman 5, Penn Yan 0

The Wildcats defeated the Mustangs, dropping the PYA boys to 2-2, while Whitman remained undefeated at 4-0. Austin King bowled the match’s top series for Whitman, bowling games of 230 and the match high 239 in his 633 series. Also for Whitman, Isaiah Murphy bowled games of 207 and 233 in his 618 series, Brayden Armison bowled a 217 game and Ely Mangiarelli bowled games of 205 and 212. For Penn Yan, Colin Johnson had the top series of 537 with a high game of 187, Connor Anderson got a high game of 180 in his 525 series and Cayden Pinneo bowled a 195 game.

Girls Bowling Dec. 22 Penn Yan 4, Marcus Whitman 1

PYA took the win against Whitman, remaining undefeated after four matches. The Whitman girls were 2-1 with the loss. Anella Tillman captured the top series of the match with a 606, which included games of 194, 209 and 203. Lyanna Shipman had 579 series for Penn Yan, including games of 192 and the team-high game of 213, while Julia Maldonado bowled a 193 game. Whitman’s Zoelle Payne scored the match-high game of 217 in her 563 series. Also for Whitman, Shealyn Freida and Kennedy Smith bowled games of 180.

Newkirk Memorial Christmas Tournament

Dec. 28

The William Newkirk Memorial Christmas Tournament was held last Wednesday at Roseland Bowl with multiple local teams participating. Penn Yan Academy’s Skyler Willoughby took the high series in Boys Group C, while Lyanna Shipman, also from Penn Yan, had the high game (207) in Girls Group B.

Indoor Track

Dec. 27 at RIT Girls

Marcus Whitman’s Lana Burnett won the Triple Jump (33-05), took 3rd in 55 Dash (7.75) and took 2nd in the Long Jump (15-05), Taylor Bond took 6th in the 1000 Run (3:45), Olivia Hill took 6th in 1500 Run (6:07) and 4th in the 3000 Run (13:05). For Dundee/Bradford, Madison Hughes won the Long Jump (16-01), took 4th in the Triple Jump (30-10) and took 6th in the 55 Dash (7.98). The top finisher for Penn Yan was Cynthia Kriegar, who finished 7th in the Shot Put (27-02).

Boys

From Penn Yan, JD Tette won the 1600 Run (4:52) and the 3200 Run (10:21), with Kyle Wheeler taking 3rd (11:05) and Anthony Wheeler taking 4th (11:40). Also for PYA, Tony Sciallo took 3rd in the Shot Put (36-01). Dundee/ Bradford’s Camden Buchanan took third in the 55 Dash (6.96) and won the Long Jump (19-10), with Hayden Erick taking 3rd (1810). Erick also took 6th in the Triple Jump (3702). Marcus Whitman’s Fletcher Dickmann took 4th in the 100 Run (3:03.1), followed by teammate Max Clovis in 5th (3:03.5). Connor Rinas took 4th in the Weight Throw (35-09) for Whitman.

Dec. 29 at RIT Girls

For Marcus Whitman, Taylor Bond took 3rd in the 600 Run (1:55) and 4th in the 1000 Run (3:41), with Olivia Hill taking 5th (3:43) in the 1000 and 4th in the 1500 (5:55). Lana Burnett won the Triple Jump (34-04) and took 2nd in the Long Jump (15-06). Whitman also took 3rd in the 400 Relay.

Boys

Penn Yan’s JD Tette won the 3200 Run (10:08); Anthony Wheeler took 5th (10:58) and Kyle Wheeler took 6th (11:16). Tony Sciallo came in 4th in the Shot Put (35-01). Penn Yan took 4th in the 800 Relay. Max Clovis took 4th in the 600 Run (1:37) for Whitman. Also for Whitman, Fletcher Dickmann took 3rd in the 3200 Run (10:49), Chris Westermann took 6th in the 1600 Run (5:19), Melkamu Blueye took 6th in the Long Jump (17-08) and Connor Rinas took 4th in the Weight Throw (42-06). Whitman took 2nd in the 400 Relay.

Boys Basketball

Dec. 22 Marcus Whitman 76, Red Jacket 46 Whitman won by 30 points against Red Jacket in a Finger Lakes crossover game, moving up to 4-3. Whitman got 25 points from Bryce Tomion, 24 from Brody Royston and Logan Storms scored 10 points. Johnathan Bugbee led RJ with 15 points, all from 3-pointers. Red Jacket was 2-1 with the loss.

South Seneca 53, Naples 49

South Seneca won a close one over Naples, improving to 4-1. The Big Green was 1-6, narrowly missing their shot at a second win for the season.

Dec. 27 Haverling 64, Dundee/Bradford 58

Dundee/Bradford lost to Haverling in the first round of the Avoca-Prattsburgh Holiday Tournament, losing by just six points. Jacob Hagadone led the Rams with 21 points, while Justin Yehl scored 16. For Dundee/Bradford, Cam Rosemier scored 21 points with seven rebounds and Ryan McTamney scored 11. Also for D/B, Aidan Webster and Logan Buchanan each scored 10. Dundee/Bradford was 3-5 with the loss; Haverling was 2-4.

Dec. 28 Penn Yan 61, WOIS 50

The Mustangs came out on top over World of Inquiry, picking up their first win of the season (1-6). WOIS was also 1-6 after the game. The teams traded scoring advantage by quarter, but with 10 point differentials in the second and fourth, Penn Yan pulled away and took the win. Tanyon Dunning led PYA with 20 points, while Liam Chapman scored 15 and Matt Tones scored 13. For WOIS, Yacoub Tarawally scored 17 and Jaedon Adams-Griffin scored 14.

Dundee/Bradford 42, Wayland-Cohocton 19

In the second day of the Avoca-Prattsburgh Holiday Tournament, Dundee/Bradford took a big win over WayCo, making up for a loss in the first round. Top scorers for the BraveScots were Cam Rosemier with 10 points, Aidan Webster with nine and Ryan McTamney and Logan Buchanan scored eight. Buchanan also hauled in eight rebounds. Matt Feinman led WayCo with nine points.

Girls Basketball

Dec. 22 Bloomfield 55, Marcus Whitman 44

Whitman fell by 11 to the Bloomfield Bombers, picking up their first loss of the season after four straight wins. The win moved Bloomfield up to 6-1. Calla McCombs led the Bombers with 26 points. Also for Bloomfield, Ali Baughman scored 12 points, while Lily Baughman and Ashlyn Wright each scored nine.
