The Wayne-Finger Lakes League Championships are scheduled for Jan. 28, also at RIT. <b>Boys Basketball</b> <b>Jan. 14 Geneva 66, Marcus Whitman 46 </b>In a battle of the felines, the Geneva Panthers won by 20 over the Whitman Wildcats. Geneva improved to 4-4 with the win, snapping a four-game losing streak, while Whitman’s record evened out to 6-6. Brian Whitley led Geneva, scoring 18 points and getting 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. For Whitman, Brody Royston scored 23 points and Logan Storms scored 11. <b>Jan. 17 Penn Yan 59, Mynderse 56 </b>Penn Yan beat visiting Mynderse, moving up to 3-9 overall and 1-6 in the Finger Lakes East. The lead moved back and forth through the game, with PYA on leading by one in the first quarter, but Mynderse taking the lead 32-27 at half. Coming back, the teams continued to battle, but it was Penn Yan who came out on top, winning by a three-pointer. Liam Chapman scored 21 points for PYA and Tanyon Dunning scored 20. Jaydan Ryako led Mynderse with 18 points. <b>Pal-Mac 55, Marcus Whitman 42</b> Marcus Whitman lost to Pal-Mac, falling to 6-7. The Raiders rose to 8-4. The top shooter for Pal-Mac was Ian Goodness with 25 points, while for Whitman, Tariku Blueye scored 12 points and Brody Robinson scored 10. <b>Jan. 18 Geneva 72, Penn Yan 37 </b>Penn Yan took a big loss against the league-leading Geneva, falling to 3-10 overall and 1-7 in the league. Anthony Torres led Geneva with 14 points, while Brian Whitley and Xavier Praylor each scored 12. For PYA, Matt Tones scored 11 points. With the win, Geneva was 6-4 overall and 6-2 in the FLE. <b>Dundee/Bradford 66, Naples 33 </b>Naples lost in Bradford, moving the BraveScots up to 7-6 and dropping the Green to 2-11. Within the Finger Lakes West, Dundee/ Bradford sat at 4-5, while Naples was 1-7. Cam Rosemier led the ‘Scots with 22 points, while Ryan McTamney had 16 points and eight steals and Logan Buchanan had 12 points and seven rebounds. The lead scorer for Naples was Dylan Bray with 11 points. <b>Jan. 20 Waterloo 71, Penn Yan 49 </b>Though they had a promising start to the game, the Mustangs eventually fell to Waterloo, dropping to 3-11 this season. Penn Yan led the first quarter until the very end, when the Tigers were able to tie it up 18-18, with the second quarter a close, back and forth contest that came to a slight 36-32 lead for Waterloo going into halftime. However, the second half of the game fell apart for the Mustangs, as the same problems they’ve contended with all season began to rear up. Namely, sloppy passing, a dearth of missed shots and a failure to defend against the 3-pointer. While the third quarter was still somewhat competitive for PYA, with a 41-57 score going into the fourth, the Mustangs were only able to score another eight points in the final period as Waterloo continued to climb, ending in a sizable victory for the Tigers. Devin Mulvey-Salerno led Waterloo with 16 points, while Nolan Slywka scored 10. For Penn Yan, Matt Tones and Tanyon Dunning each scored 17. <b>South Seneca 53, Dundee/ Bradford 45</b> The South Seneca Falcons won over Dundee/Bradford, improving to 9-2, while D/B evened out to 7-7. For Seneca, Kenny Halsey scored 12 points and Zach Sherry scored nine. For Dundee/Bradford, Cam Rosemier got 12 points, while Logan Buchanan and Nick Slavick each scored nine. After the game, South Seneca sat second in the Finger Lakes West with a league record of 7-2 and the BraveScots were fifth at 4-6. <b>Marcus Whitman 63, Mynderse 60 </b>The Wildcats won a close one against Mynderse, narrowly avoiding a third-straight loss and rising to 7-7. Mynderse was 2-10 with the loss. Looking at the situation in the Finger Lakes East, Whitman sat in sixth with a league record of 3-5, followed by Penn Yan (1-8) and Mynderse (0-8). Geneva sat at the top of the FLE with a 6-3 record, one win above Pal-Mac. <b>Midlakes 56, Naples 44 </b>Naples lost to Midlakes, putting the Green at 2-12 with a fifth-straight loss. The Eagles were 6-8 with the win, snapping a six loss streak. Naples continues to sit at the bottom of the Finger Lakes West with a league record of 1-8, two games behind Bloomfield (3-6). Also in the FLW, Dundee/Bradford is in fifth at 4-6, while the top spot in the league is held by Red Jacket at 7-1. <b>Girls Basketball</b> <b>Jan. 13 Newark 65, Penn Yan 43</b> PYA fell to Newark, dropping to 2-9 overall and 2-4 in the Finger Lakes East. Newark improved to 4-6 overall, also 2-4 in the FLE. TaKyla Vaughn dominated the game with 31 points and 10 rebounds, while teammate Brooklyn Graham had 12 points, four assists and six rebounds. Corinne Barden led Penn Yan with 17 points. <b>Dundee/Bradford 58, Bloomfield 37 </b>Dundee/Bradford added another win to their winter, beating Bloomfield for the second time this season to go up to 10-2. Bloomfield was 9-2, with both of their season losses coming at the hands of the BraveScots. For D/B, Kailey Yeoman had 18 points and seven steals; Kendall Parker had 16 points, 10 rebounds and six steals; Mikayla Schoffner had 10 points, five assists and 11 rebounds; and Adrienne Kendall six points and 10 rebounds. On the Bombers’ side, Lily Baughman scored 13 points and Calla McCombs had 11. <b>Marcus Whitman 47, Red Jacket 18 </b>Whitman won out over RJ, moving up to 9-2 overall and 7-1 in the Finger Lakes West. Red Jacket dropped to 2-10 overall, hitting their fifth loss in a row, which marks their longest losing streak this season. For Whitman, Natalie Cotroneo scored eight points with six steals and Aurora Woodworth had 12 points, and five rebounds. <b>Wayland-Cohocton 38, Naples 23 </b>WayCo beat Naples in a crossover game that dropped the Green to 1-9 this season. WayCo was led by Mackenzie Pickard with 17 points, 18 rebounds and six steals, while Brooke Lander scored eight points and hauled in 10 rebounds. Naples’ top scorer was Grace Hebding with 10 points and six rebounds, while Polly Bay got nine points, four rebounds and four steals. <b>Jan. 17 Dundee/Bradford 47, Naples 13 </b>The BraveScots dominated the Big Green, bumping D/B up to 11-2 overall and 8-1 in the Finger Lakes West and knocking Naples down to 1-10 overall and 1-7 in the FLW. Kendall Parker led the ‘Scots with 17 points, five rebounds and five steals, while Mikayla Schoffner had 10 points and 14 rebounds. For Naples, Polly Bay scored seven points and had two steals. <b>Marcus Whitman 42, HAC 23 </b>Whitman hit double digits in the win column, climbing to 10-2 after a win against Harley-Allendale-Columbia. HAC was 4-9. Whitman was led by Olivia Herod who had 18 points and six steals, while Natalie Cotroneo had eight points and five assists. For HAC, Cadence Brecker scored 12 points, Sawyer Hartman came away with 11 steals. <b>Jan. 18 Mynderse 46, Penn Yan 23 </b>Mynderse doubled Penn Yan’s score last Wednesday, improving to 8-4, while PYA dropped to 2-10 overall and 2-5 in the Finger Lakes East. Maddie Verkey and Haley Mosch each scored 13 points for Mynderse, with Verkey adding three assists, five rebounds and four steals and Mosch getting four rebounds and six steals. <b>Jan. 19 Dundee/Bradford 51, South Seneca 32 </b>Dundee/Bradford made it four in a row with a win against the Falcons, improving to 12-2 overall and 9-1 in the FLW. Kendall Parker led the BraveScots with 18 points, six rebounds and nine steals. Also for D/B, Lily Hall had seven points and four rebounds and Mikayla Schoffner had seven points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. South Seneca was led by Makenzie Snyder with nine points and Karah Hill scored six points. Seneca was 6-7, hitting their fourth-straight loss. <b>Marcus Whitman 56, Naples 32 </b>Naples fell to the Wildcats, dropping to 1-11 overall and 1-8 in the FLW, while Whitman improved to 11-2 with their fourth win in a row and 9-1 in the league. Aliysiah Clark had 13 points and seven rebounds for Whitman; Aurora Woodworth had 11 points, five assists and five rebounds and Katie Bootes scored points and five rebounds. It was PYA’s first year attending the annual event. The team of 7th-10th graders joined a field mostly made up of Rochester area schools. The tournament consisted of three games in the morning and three games in the afternoon, with final standings based on total pinfall for the day. PYA fielded two boys teams. Penn Yan Team 1, which included CJ Miller, Skyler Willoughby, Jaxon Jensen, Connor Andersen and Colin Johnson bowled a 5,199 total and finished in 7th place in the tourney. Penn Yan Team 2, which had Chase Knapp, Ryan Morse, Cayden Pinneo and Carson Pinneo bowled a 3,050 as a team of only four, which put them in 17th place. Individually, two PYA boys bowlers finished in the top 20 of a total of 113 boys; Connor Andersen bowled a 1209 and finished 14th and Colin Johnson was close behind with an 1195 in 15th place. On the girls side, Penn Yan fielded one team in the tournament. The team of Lyanna Shipman, Taylor Morse, Ameina Samatulski, Bella Miller and Anella Tillman knocked down 4,656 pins for a 4th place finish. Two girls finished in the top 20 out of 71 total girls. Tillman bowled an 1115 for 6th place and Shipman bowled a strong 976 to finish 17. Additionally, Anella Tillman received honors for bowling a 245 in game three, the highest game bowled by a girl in the morning block. <b>Boys Bowling </b> <b>Jan. 12 Marcus Whitman 5, Wayne 0</b> Whitman were up to seven in a row without a stop after their win against Wayne, with still no losses in the Winter season. Austin King bowled games of 221, 225 and 195 for the matchhigh series of 641 and Ely Mangiarelli bowled the match-high game of 232, also bowling a 182 in his 573 series. Also for Whitman, Brayden Armison bowled a 193 game and Mason Shaw bowled games of 187 and 191. For Wayne, Jacob Keilon bowled the team’s high game of 181 and high series of 522. <b>Jan. 17 Marcus Whitman 4, Penn Yan 1 </b>Whitman picked up their eighth win of the season in their match against Penn Yan, knocking the Mustangs down to an even 4-4. It was a thunderous match on both sides, with Whitman’s Austin King bowling an incredible series of 217, 247 and the match-high game of 279, to take make the match-high total of 743. PYA was led by Colin Johnson, also bowling consistently above 200, with games of 204, 234 and 218 for the team’s high series of 656. Other highlights for Whitman were a 193 game from Ely Mangiarelli and a 192 for Brayden Armison. For Penn Yan, Connor Anderson bowled games of 216 and 230 in his 606 series and CJ Miller bowled a 208 game. <b>Romulus 5, Dundee/ Bradford 0</b> Romulus took the win against the BraveScots, dropping Dundee/ Bradford to 1-4. Ethan Wolverton led the match, bowling the match-high game of 190 and matchhigh series of 515 for Romulus. D/B’s highest game came from Collin Snow, who got a 135 in his 348 series. <b>Jan. 19 Newark 5, Penn Yan 0 </b>Newark won out over PYA, putting the Mustangs in the red at 4-5. Newark’s Grayson Cole had the match’s top series of 622 with games of 256, 187 and 179, while Penn Yan’s Colin Johnson bowled the match-high game of 259 in his 604 series. Other highlights for Newark included a 595 series from Haydn Tellner with games of 194 and 231 and a 572 series from Conner Garling, with games of 189, 191 and 192. High bowlers for PYA were CJ Miller with a 208 game in his 550 series and Connor Anderson with a 211 game. <b>Bloomfield 4, Dundee/ Bradford 1 </b>Bloomfield beat the BraveScots, dropping D/B to 1-5. Bloomfield’s Ethan Briggs had the match-high game of 145 and match-high series of 412. Dundee/Bradford’s top game was a 137 from Ethan Farrow, who also got the BraveScots’ high series of 351. <b>Marcus Whitman 5, Geneva 0</b> Whitman continued their undefeated march, making it nine in a row without a loss. Geneva’s Jayden Jackson had the match’s top game of 265 and top series of 623. MW’s Austin King had the next highest scores, bowling games of 201, 213 and 203 in his 617 series. Also for Whitman, Isaiah Murphy bowled games of 234 and 185 in his 589 series and Brayden Armison had a high game of 203 in his 538 series. For the Panthers, Malakai Thomas had a high game of 169. <b>Midlakes 5, Naples 0</b> Naples lost to Midlakes, falling to 2-3 this season. Midlakes’ top bowler was Gavin Burnett, bowling a match-high 223 game in the match-high series of 557. For Naples, Evan Rischpater bowled a 213 game in his 518 series. <b>Girls Bowling </b> <b>Jan. 12 Marcus Whitman 5, Wayne 0</b> Wayne lost to Whitman, bringing the Wildcats up to 5-1. Wayne’s Leah Burke had the match’s high series of 658, including games of 202, 224 and the match-high 232. Brooke Willmott bowled a 181 game for Wayne. Also for Penn Yan, Lyanna Shipman bowled a 196 game and Amenia Samatulski bowled a 177 game. Romulus’ GiGi Consolie bowled the match-high game of 192 in the match-high series of 471, while Aven Bowers bowled a high game of 191 in her 460 series. For PYA, McKenna Miller had a high game of 179 in her 469 series and Cassie Morrissette bowled a 176. <b>Jan. 19 Newark 5, Penn Yan 0 </b>Hit by illness, Penn Yan was only able to bring three bowlers to their match against Newark, losing all five points to the Reds. Penn Yan dropped to 6-4 with the loss. Rebecca Spry bowled the match’s top series of 689, bowling games of 225, 227 and the match-high 237. Also for Newark, Sienna Hasseler bowled games of 190 and 198 in her 545 series and Natalie Kent bowled games of 186 and 189 in her 513 series. However, D/B’s Cassie Morrissette did have the match’s highest game with a 168. Bloomfield’s Lydia Tutty had the match-high series of 462 with a high game of 157. <b>Marcus Whitman 5, Geneva 0</b> The Whitman girls won over the Panthers, moving up to 6-2. Whitman’s Kennedy Smith had the match-high series of 533, which included the match-high game of 203 and a 179 game. Also for MW, Zoelle Payne had games of 168 and 173 in her 498 series.
