Rob Maeske The Chronicle-Express Bowling Feb. 14-17 Section V Championships Class C Boys Team Scores: Newark 5,645; Waterloo 5,598; Penn Yan 5,412; Genesee Valley 5,339; Midlakes 5,234; Wayne 4,652; Sodus/Williamson 4,488; North Rose-Wolcott 4,419 PYA’s Colin Johnson got the high game of the day with 266. Johnson was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

The high series for Class C was bowled by Kory Nurse of Genesee Valley, who bowled a total 1,392 for the tourney and was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Penn Yan finished 3rd overall with a total pinfall of 5,412.

Class C Girls Team Scores: Newark 5,440; Waterloo 4,825; Penn Yan 4,716; Midlakes 4,510; Sodus/ Williamson 4,423; Wayne 4,060; Geneva 3,004; North Rose-Wolcott 2,491 Waterloo’s Sabrina Palmer bowled the high game for the girls’ tournament with a 234. The day’s high series went to Newark’s Natalie Kent, who bowled a total 1,268 on the day. The Penn Yan girls finished 3rd overall with a six-game pinfall of 4,716. Anella Tillman earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team and bowled the second highest game of the day with a 234. Based on her average of 199 through the regular season, Tillman also secured a spot on the Section V Composite Team, which will compete at the State Tournament in March.

Class D Boys Team Scores: Marcus Whitman 5,663; Clyde-Savannah 5,202; Naples 4,386; Romulus 4,191; Bishop Kearney 3,990; Lyons 3,902; Bloomfield 3,845; Red Creek 3,741 Marcus Whitman finished 1st overall with a total pinfall of 5,663. Parker Miller from Clyde-Savannah had the tourney- high game 268 and the high series of 1,291. Miller earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team along with Whitman’s Isaiah Murphy, who had a tournament series of 1,266.

Class D Girls Team Scores: Marcus Whitman 4,916; Red Creek 4,552; Bloomfield 4,144; Romulus 3,691; Honeoye 3,409; Bishop Kearney 3,397; Clyde-Savannah 3,209; World of Inquiry School 2,649 Marcus Whitman finished 1st with a total pinfall of 4,916. Dundee/Bradford’s Cassie Morrissette bowled the high game of the tourney with a 228, while Whitman’s Kennedy Smith had the highest total series of 1,107. Dundee/Bradford didn’t have enough bowlers to compete for a tournament

Boys Basketball Feb. 14 Mynderse 66, Penn Yan 61 Penn Yan Academy came a breath away from winning their last game of the regular season, instead losing in Mynderse and finishing the season 3-17 overall and 1-13 in the Finger Lakes East. Mynderse was also 1-13 in the league. The win would’ve given PYA the edge of Mynderse in the standings, but the two teams tied for last place in the FLE.

For Mynderse, Jake Prayne had 16 points, while Jayden Ryrko and Max Santana each scored 14 points. Liam Chapman led Penn Yan with 24 points. Also for the Mustangs, Jaxson Enos scored 12 points and Carson NagPaul scored 10.

Pal-Mac 56, Marcus Whitman 43

Whitman fell to Palmyra-Macedon, ending the Wildcats’ season with an overall record of 8-12 and a league record of 4-10. Pal-Mac was led by Ian Goodness with 25 points, while Carter Young scored eight and Ethan Ely got seven. For Marcus Whitman, Connor Gorton scored 15 points, Tariku Blueye scored 13 points and Brody Royston scored eight.

Whitman ended up 6th in the Finger Lakes East behind Waterloo.

Girls Basketball Feb. 13 Mercy 55, Penn Yan 19

Penn Yan took a big loss to Mercy in a crossover game, dropping to 4-14 this season. Audrey Hintz led Mercy with 15 points and seven rebounds. For Penn Yan, Corinne Barden scored seven points and Bailey Cooper got six points and seven rebounds.

Feb. 14 Marcus Whitman 42, South Seneca 21

Whitman doubled South Seneca’s score in their last game of the regular season, finishing out at 15-5 overall and 12-4 in the Finger Lakes West. The Wildcats finished 3rd in the league.

Seneca finished the season with a league record of 9-7, taking 4th place. Olivia Herod led Whitman with 15 points. Also for MW, Natalie Cotroneo scored eight points, while Sophie Snyder, Maddie Daggett and Lily Carroll each added four to Whitman’s score.

Chloe Scott was Seneca’s lead scorer with nine points. Whitman finished the season in 3rd place in the FLW, behind Dundee/Bradford and Bloomfield, who tied for league’s top spot with 15-1 records. Whitman will face Bloomfield in the first round of the Class C1 bracket of Sectionals on Feb. 21, while Dundee/Bradford enter the Class C2 bracket at the #4 seed and will face #13 Wheatland-Chili on Feb. 22.

Romulus 41, Naples 33

Naples finished out the season at 2-17 with a loss to Romulus, sitting at 2-14 in the Finger Lakes West. Naples finished last in the league, while Romulus ended up in 7th with a record of 4-12.

Maggie Bloom was Romulus top scorer with 14 points, Hannah Wakula had 10 points and four steals, Andrea Teed had six points and 16 rebounds and Annaliese Shoots got 10 rebounds. Rebecca Pogel led Naples with 12 points. Naples will enter the Class D1 bracket for Sectionals at the 11th seed, taking on #6 South Seneca on Feb. 21.

Feb. 15 Mynderse 42, Penn Yan 31

The Mustangs ended their regular season with a loss at home to Mynderse, finishing the season at 4-15 overall and 4-10 in the Finger Lakes East. For Mynderse, Bella Ferrara had 10 points and three rebounds; Maddie Verkey had eight points, six rebounds and four steals and Kelly Kohberger had seven points and four rebounds. Corinne Barden led the Mustangs with 12 points and five rebounds. Also for PYA, Bailey Cooper had seven points, eight rebounds and five steals. The win saw Mynderse end their season with a league record of 8-6, giving them the 4th spot in the FLE, while Penn Yan finished out in 6th. Penn Yan enters the B2 bracket of Sectionals at the 9th seed and were set to take on Williamson/Marion on Feb.
