MW Drama Club presents James and the Giant Peach

RUSHVILLE - It’s Roald Dahl’s amazingly popular James and the Giant Peach – a musical for the whole family to enjoy, featuring a wickedly tuneful score by the Tony Award-nominated team of Pasek & Paul (Broadway’s smash hits Dear Evan Hansen, A Christmas Story the Musical, and feature-film The Greatest Showman) and a curiously quirky book by Timothy Allen McDonald ( Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka).

When James (Simon Virkler-Thursday/ Saturday, Cam Gardner-Friday/Sunday) is sent by his wicked Aunt Spiker and Sponge (Maddie Mekeel, Lily Metcalf) to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that results in a tremendous peach… and launches a journey of enormous proportions. Suddenly, James finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach – among human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities (Fletcher Dickmann, Amelia Rasmussen, Robert Sloth, Kendall Davis,

and Christyan Borsching)– but, after it falls from the tree and rolls into the ocean, the group faces hunger, sharks, and plenty of disagreements. Thanks to James’ quick wit and creative thinking, they learn to live and work together as a family. The dangerous voyage is a success, but the adventure takes a whole new twist once they land on the Empire State Building. This show will quickly become one of your all-time favorites!

Dahl’s themes of family and belonging ring as true here as ever. James teaches us that family doesn’t just have to mean blood relatives. It runs much deeper than that. The score in James and the Giant Peach will have you singing along in no time, perhaps even wishing that you, too, could set sail in a magic fruit.

Rounding out the cast are Jason Lincoln, Dalanie Kolz, Layla Conley, Liv Hill, Randi Hottinger, Madi Kinner, Olivia Rayburn, Lachlan Dickmann, Frank Hottinger, Jace Mumby, Reagan Winum, and Addie Dickman. Stage managers for the show are Devin Sampson and Bella Amato. The stage crew consists of Tyler Miller, Sam Virkler, and Klaire Havens. With direction and staging by Damian Grzeskowiak and musical direction by Holly-Noelle Blueye, this joyful show is not to be missed.
