Rob Maeske The Chronicle-Express Baseball Apr. 11 Penn Yan 12, Waterloo 4 The Mustangs won their season-opener against Waterloo, tripling the Tigers’ score in a dominant display. Brady Emerson was the winning pitcher for PYA, getting six strikeouts in four innings. Emerson allowed three runs before being relieved by Derek Allison, who got one strikeout and allowed one run. At the plate, PYA’s Liam Chapman went 1-2, was walked twice and scored three runs; Brady Bouchard went 2-3, also being walked twice and scoring three runs; Reed Bouchard hit a double for two RBI; Derek Allison hit a triple for three RBI and Mike Layton went 2-4 with two RBI. Waterloo had hits from Casey Burcroff, Devin Mulvey-Salerno and Hayden Linehan. Linehan and Mulvey-Salerno each had two RBI. Mulvey-Salerno stole two bases, while Linehan and Burcroff each stole one. Waterloo was 0-3 with the loss. Apr. 12 Naples 2, Bloomfield 1 Naples took their season-opener by one against the Bombers, earning their first league win of the year. Batting for the Big Green, Traugott Uhlen and Grady Grove each had one RBI, while Uhlen and Drew Reigelsperger got a run each. On the mound for Naples, Grady Grove pitched four innings, getting five strikeouts, allowing two hits and walking one batter. Charlie Grove pitched three innings, getting three strikeouts, four hits and a walk. Pitching for Bloomfield, Gabe Ward went six innings, getting 13 strikeouts, walking one and allowing just three hits. The loss dropped Bloomfield to 0-2 in the Finger Lakes West. Apr. 13 Penn Yan 4, Mynderse 0 Penn Yan Academy shut out Mynderse Academy, improving to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the league. Brady Bouchard pitched a complete game for the Mustangs, racking up 16 strikeouts. At the plate, Liam Chapman went 2-3, getting a triple and two runs; Brady Bouchard went 1-3 with a double and Mike Layton went 1-3. Dundee/Bradford 9, Addison 8 Dundee/Bradford won their first game of the season in a crossover with Addison. Apr. 14 Oneida 12, Penn Yan 5 PYA took on Oneida in a crossover game at Falcon Park in Auburn, taking a big loss to the Section III team. Liam Chapman went 1-3 with a run, Riley Griffiths went 2-4 with one RBI, Brady Bouchard went 1-2 with one RBI and Reed Bouchard went 1-3. In pitching, Champing pitched four innings, netting seven strikeouts. After Chapman came out, Derek Allison pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief before Brady Emerson put in a strong relief effort, pitching 2 1/3 innings and getting six strikeouts. The loss put PYA at 3-4 overall for the season. Naples 15, Dundee/Bradford 8 Naples took a big win over Dundee/ Bradford, with the Big Green Machines moving up to 2-0 this season, while the BraveScots fell to 1-1. The game looked like it would be going for DB until Naples got 11 runs in the last two innings. Drew Reigelsperger led Naples on the mound and at the plate, pitching six innings for five strikeouts and allowing two runs, and hitting three singles for five RBI. Also for Naples, Charlie Grove had three singles, while Grady Grove and Cade Rathburn each had two singles and two RBI. Pitching for Dundee/Bradford, Jeremy Stiles went a little over six innings, getting five strikeouts and allowing five runs. DB’s best hitter of the day was Ian Gleason with two doubles. Apr. 15 Naples 5, East Rochester 4 Naples continued their winning run with a victory over East Rochester, handing the ER their first loss of the season and stopping their five-win streak. Naples took the lead early, scoring four runs in the first inning and it wasn’t until the last inning that ER was able to bring the score within one. Charlie Grove pitched six innings for the Big Green, picking up two strikeouts and allowing four runs off of six hits. Traugott Uhlen and Drew Reigelsperger each had two hits for Naples, with Uhlen getting a double, an RBI and a run and Reigelsperger going 2-3 with a run and an RBI. Also for Naples, Donivan Todd doubled with an RBI and a run and Cade Rathburn had a single that resulted in an RBI. For East Rochester, Noah Wollschleger finished 2-3 with a double and a run, which brought ER within a run of Naples. Landon Wollschleger, Tyler Leisten and Colin Kempf each singled with an RBI apiece, with Leisten and Kempf also scoring a run each. Softball Apr. 11 Waterloo 13, Penn Yan 3 Waterloo took the win over Penn Yan in the season-opener for both teams, with the Tigers beating the Mustangs by 10. Waterloo had four players get at least two RBI each, including Haylee Beesley, Nadya Clingerman, Gwyneth Panek and Emily Plate. Also for the Tigers, Kennedy Beniamino hit two singles, a double and a triple with one RBI on the double. Winning pitcher Clingerman recorded 13 strikeouts and got a home run at the plate in the 6th inning. PYA pitcher Giana Ficcaglia got 9 Ks, also hitting a double in the 3rd that led to two RBI. Leah Prather also got a double for the Mustangs. Dundee/Bradford 11, Watkins Glen 5 The BraveScots won a crossover game against Watkins on Tuesday, starting their season off at 1-0. Mikayla Schoffner started the game off with a bang, getting a two-run homer for Dundee/Bradford in the 1st inning. Adalyn Tham and Korrin Yeoman each had three hits for the ‘Scots, with Yeoman also getting three steals. Also for Dundee/Bradford, Mykenzie Clancey had two RBI and Morgan Sutryk, Kailey Yeoman, Addie Kendall and Madison Sutryk all got a hit. Six runs scored in the 5th inning pretty much locked the win for the BraveScots. Winning pitcher Addie Kendall pitched four innings for DB, getting two strikeouts. Wayland-Cohocton 16, Naples 1 Naples led their season off with a big loss to Way-Co. Apr. 12 Bloomfield 18, Naples 0 The Big Green took their second big loss in a row, falling victim to an 18 point shutout from Bloomfield. Winning pitcher Ashlyn Wright got 13 strikeouts and gave up just one hit, to Naples’ Polly Bay, who also got a steal. Batting for Bloomfield, Brianna Leitten went 3-4, netting five RBI, a double and three runs; Calla McCombs also went 3-4, with three RBI and three runs; and Abby O’Brien went 2-3, with three RBI and three runs. Apr. 13 Mynderse 6, Penn Yan 5 The Mustangs lost a close one to Mynderse, falling to 0-2 this season. Despite the loss, PYA had the better pitching record of the day, with Giana Ficcaglia recording 10 strikeouts to winning pitcher Morgan O’Brien’s three. At the plate for the Mustangs, Leah Prather doubled in the 5th and Hailey Trank got a triple in the same inning. Penn Yan also managed two double plays in the game, but the Devils took it at the end of the day. The win put Mynderse at 1-2. Addison 15, Dundee/Bradford 0 Addison shut out Dundee/Bradford with a massive 15 run win, dropping the BraveScots to 1-1. It was Addison’s third win in a row; they remain undefeated so far this season. Apr. 14 Naples 16, Dundee/Bradford 0 The BraveScots took their second big shutout in a row, falling to Naples 16-0. The ‘Scots were 1-2 with the loss and 0-1 with their first league game. It was Naples’ first win of the season, rebounding from an 18-0 shutout against Bloomfield in their previous game and also going to 1-2. Apr. 15 Naples 15, East Rochester 0 Naples snagged a second big shutout in a row, decimating East Rochester in a 15-0 display. The win brought Naples up to 2-2, while ER was 1-2 with the loss. Boys Lacrosse Apr. 11 Penn Yan 13, Marcus Whitman 1 Penn Yan dominated their first league match of the season, beating Marcus Whitman by a dozen points. PYA was already leading by six halfway through the game, scoring four unanswered points in the first quarter and holding Whitman to a single point before halftime. It was MW’s only goal of the game, while Penn Yan scored three in each of the remaining periods. Teagan Fingar and Frank Ochoa led the Mustangs with four points apiece, Fingar also getting three assists. Rylan Weissinger scored Whitman’s lone point with an assist from Brody Royston. PYA’s Will Thompson made five saves before allowing the single goal, being replaced by Aiden Griffiths for the last two minutes, who got a save before the final horn. For Whitman, Blake Dunton made 19 saves. Whitman was 1-1 in the Finger Lakes with the loss. Apr. 13 Penn Yan 7, Geneva 5 Penn Yan Academy beat Geneva, moving up to 2-0 in the Finger Lakes and 2-2 overall. PYA took an early lead, getting two unanswered goals in the first quarter and outshooting the Panthers 3-2 before the half. Geneva began to rally in the fourth quarter, getting two unanswered points of their own, but it wasn’t enough to tie up the game and the Mustangs took the W. Frank Ochoa and Carter Earl each got two points for Penn Yan, with Earl also picking up an assist. Also for PYA, Tukker Fisher, Braden Fingar and Teagan Fingar each scored a goal, with Teagan getting two assists, as did Bryant Van Housen. Ryan Brown led Geneva with three goals. In the nets, PY’s Will Thompson made six saves, while Geneva’s Dakota Bajdas made 15. Livonia/Avon 9, Marcus Whitman 7 Whitman lost a close crossover game to Livonia/Avon, dropping to 1-2 this season. LA scored four goals in the first quarter to Whitman’s one, giving the home team an early advantage. While Whitman made up ground in the second and third quarters, coming within one point of Livonia/Avon, LA scored two in the final quarter to seal the win. Max McEnerney led LA with four goals, while Jackson McEnerney got two and an assist. Winning goalie Matt Beachel made seven saves, going an even 50% in the net. For Whitman, Rylan Weissinger had three goals and an assist, Brody Royston had one goal and three assists and Melkamu Blueye got one goal and one assist. Livonia/Avon was 4-0 with the win. Apr. 15 Canandaigua 6, Penn Yan 5 Canandaigua led Penn Yan through the first half of their game on Saturday. PYA started to rally after halftime, with Tukker Fisher tying it up in the third, but CA took the lead back with four seconds left in the quarter. Both teams scored in the fourth quarter, but PYA was unable to keep the score even and Canandaigua walked away with the win. Braden Gioseffi and Sean Olvany scored two goals each for the Braves, Olvany also picking up an assist. Teagan Fingar led Penn Yan with two goals and an assist, while Bryant Van Housen, Carter Earl and Tukker Fisher each scored a goal, with an assist each from Van Housen and Earl. In the nets, Jack Faiola made five saves for CA and Will Thompson made three for PYA. The win kept Canandaigua undefeated after six games. Penn Yan was 2-3 overall with the loss. Marcus Whitman 13, Bloomfield/Honeoye 3 Whitman put a big hurt on Bloomfield/ Honeoye, winning by 10 and moving up to 2-2. The game started off with a 2-2 tie in the first quarter, but MW scored three unanswered goals in the second to take the lead into the half. The second half of play was even worse for BH, with Whitman going 3-1 in the third and scoring five in the fourth without a rebuttal. Rylan Weissinger led the Wildcats with three goals; Melkamu Blueye, Connor Gorton and Tyler Tiffany each scored two. Also for Whitman, Brody Royston helped out his team with six assists and a goal. For Bloomfield/Honeoye, John Blair, Jonathan Nelson and Liam Roach each got one goal and one assist. Blake Dunton made 12 saves for Marcus Whitman, while Ethan Stoddard made 11 for BH. Girls Lacrosse Apr. 12 Penn Yan 11, Waterloo-Marcus Whitman 8 The Mustangs won their first league game of the season after a competitive match against the newly combined Waterloo-Marcus Whitman. With both teams fighting hard, the first half ended in a tie, with six points apiece, but Penn Yan pulled ahead after halftime, outscoring WMW 5-2. For PYA, Bailey Cooper scored four goals and Ruby Berry scored three goals, while Corinne Barden and Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger got a goal and an assist each. Miranda-Wilterberger was also responsible for four turnovers. Marion Wheeler made eight saves for Penn Yan, going 50% in the net. On WMW’s side, Natalie DiSanto scored three goals, Maci Mueller had two goals and two assists and Lainie Forde scored two goals and one assist. Madycyn Hurdle made seven saves for the WMW. Apr. 16 Penn Yan 12, Hamburg 7 Penn Yan Academy continued their streak with a win against Hamburg, moving up to five straight wins. The Mustangs took a 7-4 scoring advantage in the first half and went 5-3 in the second. Bailey Cooper led Penn Yan with five goals, while Maihue Miranda-Wiltberger had three goals and an assist. Kendall Bailey, Taylor Mullins, Corinne Barden and Gianna Voigt each scored a goal. Barden also got an assist and both Taylor and Makenna Mullins were responsible for three turnovers apiece. In goal, Marion Wheeler made seven saves for PYA. Boys Tennis Apr. 11 Honeoye 3, Penn Yan 2 Penn Yan Academy lost their season- opener to Honeoye. In singles, Honeoye’s Ajay Merrick won over Landon Spears, while Penn Yan’s Kyle Wheeler beat Ethan Le. In doubles, Honeoye’s Tre Nguyen and Owen Baader won over Tommy Barden and Carson Nagpaul. Apr. 13 Penn Yan 5, Bloomfield 0 The Mustangs shut out Bloomfield, moving up to 1-1. Landon Spears and Kyle Wheeler won their singles matches for Penn Yan, while Tommy Barden and Carson Nagpaul took doubles. Wayne 3, Naples 2 Naples lost their first game of the season, falling to Wayne, who moved up to 2-0.
