Branchport Methodist While Pastor Kim was on vacation this week to see her son graduate from college, we were happy to have Rob Heselton and Marcie Weichman lead us in worship. Rob’s message was based on “trust and obey” - from Mary’s trust that she would carry God’s son to our need to trust that God is with us every day.

One last chance to make sure you know about our annual Memorial Day weekend Chicken Barbecue! Stop on by on Saturday, May 27 at 4:30 p.m. for the best barbecue around! This year’s price is $13 for ½ chicken, potatoes, coleslaw, beans, roll and cookie. If you want just the chicken it is only $6, and the children’s price is also $6. Have a blessed Memorial Day!

Penn Yan Methodist

We celebrated all women and girls and honored mothers at a second annual afternoon of tea and cookies on May 13. Our Youth Group hosted the event with festive tablecloths, fragrant centerpiece flowers, and take-home gift boxes. It was an afternoon of lovely, relaxed conversations and the sharing of many mother-daughter stories. Did you know that celebrations of mothers and motherhood dates back to the ancient Greeks and Romans? In modern times, the U.S. began celebrating mothers in 1908 and Woodrow Wilson signed Mother’s Day into an official holiday in 1914.

Youth Sunday was the following day on May 14.

Our children and youth took part as greeters, ushers, and liturgists, and presented a song and Bible verse in sign language. The children’s faces lit up as they handed out carnations to all the women. The 3rd graders received Bibles, and Colin Weichenthal, a junior at Keuka College, gave a sermon on perseverance.

What a joyous day!

The PYUMC Youth Group will be meeting Saturday, May 27 from 5-7 p.m. The group’s focus is on fun, food, and friends! All youths in grades 6–12 are welcome to attend. We gather in the PYUMC Peek Chapel.

Penn Yan First Baptist Please join us and our other community churches at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 28 for a combined ecumenical worship service in the Yates County Courtyard.

We will offer up Scripture together in various languages, and all are invited to wear red as it is Pentecost Sunday. Bring a lawn chair or blanket.

We will move indoors for inclement weather.

We will host a Chicken Barbecue Saturday, June 17 at Lyon’s National Bank parking lot, 205 Liberty St., Penn Yan, catered by Gale-Wyn of Canandaigua. Serving from 11 a.m. until sold out (usually around 2 p.m.). Featuring 1/2 chicken, salt potatoes, choice of macaroni salad or coleslaw, and a dinner roll for $13. Proceeds will help fund the renovations of our historic sanctuary.

Bluff Point Methodist

Lay Speaker Becky Perrault gave an inspiring message on mothers on this recent Mothers Day Sunday. She mentioned the children’s book

by Dr. Seuss, Are you my Mother? She also referenced the song by Paul McCartney, Let it Be, based on a dream he had of his deceased mother named Mary, who had died of cancer, assuring him everything would be OK, showing him positivity. Becky then looked at Mary, mother of Jesus, watching her son in the synagogue, in the carpenter shop, and on the cross. She had raised him to be God’s son. She was a humble servant.

Her roles were keeping him safe versus letting him go, a role all mothers have- let go and let God.

She finished the service with the congregation singing the Beatle’s song

Let it Be! The women of the church were all given a small butterfly pin. The spiritual meaning of a butterfly deals with rebirth, creativity, joy and the wonder of life.

Six from our church-Michele Covert, Joyce Wiedrich, Laurie Prinzivalli, Trish DeMontfort, Barbara Bailey, and Millie Albertson recently traveled to Lancaster, Pa. to the Sight & Sound Theatre to see the performance of Moses, along with others from Dresden, Middlesex, and Vine Valley. These productions are always outstanding and give one greater reflection of scripture.

Happy Graduation from college to Noah Detar (Nazareth College) and Hayley Andersen (Monroe Community College).

Wishes for a bright future for you both! We will be starting Sunday brunch and remembrance of monthly birthdays the first Sunday of every month after church in June. We also are planning some future dinner//refreshment socials. Methodists do like to socialize and eat!
