MANSLAUGHTER - A Penn Yan man has been charged with drug-related manslaughter. TED E. MILLER, 65, was arrested May 17 on a Schuyler County Court Superior Court warrant, charging him with 2nd degree Manslaughter (class C felony) and 3rd degree Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance (class B felony). The indictment alleges that in March 2022, Miller sold an illegal narcotic to Kimberly Owens that caused her death. Miller was arraigned May 18 in Schuyler County Court, which set bail at $25,000 cash, $50,000 insurance bond, or $150,000 partially secured surety bond. The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department and District Attorney’s Office worked in collaboration to bring these charges forward against Miller.

MISSING CHILD FOUND - At 8:14 p.m.

Friday, May 12, Penn Yan Police were dispatched to the area of Indian Pines Park for a report of a 4-year-old child who went missing. Officers responded and began searching the surrounding wooded area for the child.

Additional agencies were requested to respond and assist with the search.

These included the Penn Yan and Branchport/Keuka Park Fire Depts., Penn Yan Ambulance, Yates County Sheriff’s Deputies and Marine Patrol. The child was located by officers at 8:42 p.m. in a wooded area North of Indian Pines Park. He was unharmed, in good spirits, and was reunited with his mother.

The PYPD would like to thank all assisting agencies for their response and assistance.

WESLEY A. COLE JR., 46, of Rushville, was arrested May 16 by Yates County Sheriff’s Deputies following a domestic incident that occurred on May 10 for allegedly violating an Order of Protection issued by Yates County Centralized Arraignment Court. He was charged with 2nd degree Criminal Contempt and will appear at the next session CAP Court.

STANLEY H. SELLARD, 28, of Urbana, was arrested May 16 by Steuben County Sheriff’s Deputies following a report of a theft in Urbana in excess of $1,000. He was charged with 4th degree Grand Larceny, and 4th degree Criminal Possession of Stolen Property (class E felonies).

He was arraigned in the Centralized Arraignment Court and remanded to the county jail.

TRAVIS D.

VERMILYEA, 29, of Penn Yan, was arrested by Penn Yan Police May 17 on an Arrest Warrant issued from Yates County Court.

Vermilye was taken into custody at the Probation Department on the charge of violation of probation.

He was arraigned in Yates County Court and remanded to the Yates County Jail without bail.

DAVID K. REED, 68, of Pittsford, was ticketed by Penn Yan Police after a traffic stop in the Village.

Reed was observed driving on Brown Street while having a suspended NYS registration. The vehicle was also found to be uninsured, unregistered and uninspected. A traffic stop was initiated and he was cited for the offenses.

Reed was issued tickets to appear in Penn Yan Village Court later.

JEFFRY L. ELLIS JR., 33, of Penn Yan, was arrested May 17 following investigation by the Yates County Sheriff’s Office into possible identity theft. Ellis allegedly used personal identifying information belonging to two other people to apply for loans online. He was charged with 1st degree Identity Theft, 3rd degree Attempted Grand Larceny, and Attempted Petit Larceny. He was issued appearance tickets for Jerusalem Court.

CHRISTOPHER T.

DWELLO, 28, of Penn Yan, was arrested May 20 by Penn Yan Police following a missing juvenile complaint from Wayne County. Officers discovered the juvenile in Dwello’s residence, and that endangering conduct had allegedly occurred.

Dwello was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and was held at the Yates County Jail to await arraignment.
