George Phillip Wolcott, 88, of Bradenton, Fla. died Monday October 4, 2010 in the comfort of his cottage along Keuka Lake, in Dundee.
There are no prior calling hours. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water St., Dundee, with Rev. Lucinda O'Leary officiating. The family will greet family and friends at a reception immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ontario-Yates County Hospice Assoc., 756 Pre-Emption Rd., Geneva, NY 14456.
George was born Dec. 21, 1921 in Elmira, the son of Phillip Theodore and Nora Baldwin Wolcott. On July 3, 1941 in Montour Falls, he married the mother of his children, the former Helen Gregory; she passed away on May 19, 1989. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.
Mr. Wolcott was a Foreman for B. F. Goodrich Tire Company in Akron, Ohio for 34 years, retiring in 1981. He has lived in Florida since 1985, previously of Wadsworth, Ohio.
On Jan. 25, 1997 in Bradenton, Fla. he married the former Elizabeth A. Palizay-Wilson. Together they attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Bradenton, Fla.; and spent their summers at the cottage on Keuka Lake.
He is loved and will be missed by his wife “Betty” of Bradenton, Fla.; three daughters, Delores “Dee” (Kent) Joachim of Wadsworth, Ohio, Phyllis (Ted) Sparks of North Highlands, Calif., Carol (Bob) Wiedeman of Bradenton, Fla.; a sister Ethel Warren of Barrington; a brother Robert (Arlene) Wolcott of Williamsport, Pa.; a step-brother, James Neish of Horseheads; nine grandchildren; 24 great- grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his wife's children Janice W. (Richard) Snyder of Honeoye Falls, Craig (“Peggy”) Wilson of Painted Post, Donald (Karen) Wilson of Fairport; and their five children.
Besides his parents, and his first wife, he was predeceased by a half brother, Phillip Wolcott.
