We can all agree that this has been one of the hardest and longest winters we’ve experienced in years which makes a game of golf sound very inviting. The Penn Yan Business Association is planning the third year of
Puttin’ thru Penn Yan on Saturday, March 19 both downtown and in the Lake Street Plaza.
Two-person teams will assemble at 10 am at The Elks Club on Main St. where they will pay $20 per team and receive the participating merchant list of 18 greens. After playing all 18 holes everyone will gather back at The Elks Club for refreshments and prizes. Home Necessities will donate two kid’s recliners to the first place team each worth $179. Radio Shack will donate a $50 gift card to each member of the second place team.
Team members will judge a chicken wing contest receiving two wings each from Cam’s New York Pizzeria, Lloyd’s Limited, The Keuka Restaurant, Mark’s Pizzeria, Wise Guys Pizza and The Brew House.
The PYBA consists of village business people and was formed to create new activities and events for the public to enjoy. Proceeds from the tournament will help fund Milly’s Backpack program which provides food and snacks to students in the Penn Yan and Dundee School Districts, Valley Elementary School in Middlesex, Pro Action Head Start and Keuka Lake School. The food is purchased from Aldi and at a discount from Foodlink of Rochester. Each week 550 packs of food are filled by 40 volunteers.
“We’ve had great success with our Puttin’ venture” said Marchenese. “Our golfers enjoy the game, food and drink and we give back to the community.” She added that it also gives the public a chance to reacquaint themselves with our local businesses. Teams can register at Elm Street Barber Shop or call Marchenese at 536-9851.
