I’ll bet you didn’t know that oil from corn appears as a constituent of laundry detergent, but it is. Recently, Proctor and Gamble announced that it would manufacture Cold Water Tide using oil derived from corn stalks, leaves and cobs rather than using corn. This new process provides a reduction in carbon emissions and improves the environmental impact of the product on the Earth. This change will also allow users to lower wash water temperature from 90 degrees to 60 degrees. Yay, P&G. To see the rest of the list visit www.aarp.org/articles-tips/articles/info-07-2014/best-small-towns-america-photo.html. Although Beaufort, SC made the list, Hammondsport did not. Oh well. What they don’t know won’t drive up local prices. For those with short memories, several years ago, Beaufort and Hammondsport tied in a contest for the best small town in America sponsored by a travel magazine.

A number of years ago a rogue website appeared in October that published purloined retail ads slated for Black Friday retail sales events. At first, retailers sought to prevent the ad publications and stores such as Macy’s, Walmart and Sears even started legal action against the site to prevent the sales leaks. Fortunately, personal and business greed won out and now retailers routinely send the website copies of their Black Friday sales circulars to wring out every dime to be had. So if you want to know what Harbor Freight is discounting this Black Friday season go on over to www.theblackfriday.com/harborfreight-blackfriday.shtml. The site also has Black Friday sales for Lowe’s, Radio Shack, Old Navy and Dick’s Sporting Goods among others. As time gets closer to Black Friday, the number of sales ads posted multiplies exponentially. Feel free to start spurring the economy.
