This week, the Penn Yan Elementary School Drama Club presents the one-act musical comedy, “The Most Epic Birthday Party Ever!”

This year’s cast of 63 students are performing at the Penn Yan Academy Auditorium, directed by Grace Knapton and Carole Cummings. With over 24 speaking and singing parts, backed by an active chorus, “The Most Epic Birthday Party Ever” was written by Denver Casado & Betina Hershey, and won the 2014 Children’s Musical Theatre Festival in New York City.

“It combines the average backyard birthday party with the storytelling, events, and music of an epic major motion picture. Combine this with hilarious over-the-top characters and a heart-warming message of family appreciation, and you’ve got a perfect show for young actors.” says Casado.

Skyler and her older brother, Charlie, have never gotten along, but during Skyler’s birthday party, their sibling rivalry reaches its peak.

Skyler is about to turn 12, and she’s planned the biggest celebration of the year. Suddenly in the middle of the party, all the adults mysteriously vanish. Trapped in the backyard, the kids realize they must create a brand new society. When they elect Charlie the ruler of “Charlandia,” everything begins to spin out of control.

Before “The Most Epic Birthday Party Ever” is over, the kids learn a big lesson in responsibility, and Skyler and Charlie learn to respect each other.

The show runs about 45 minutes.
