David E. Johnson, 71, died Sunday, July 12, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 15 at the Kenneth J. Perkins Funeral Home in Gorham. A burial with full Military Honors will be in Rushville Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Dave was a graduate of Middlesex Central School in 1962, and a graduate of Alfred State College in 1965 with an Associate’s Degree in Agriculture. Dave served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War from 1965-1967, as a Special Forces “Green Beret.”

Dave owned Johnson’s Joint in Rushville until his retirement in 2013. He also owned and operated a farm on Blodgett Road until 1988. Dave worked construction for 3 years and was employed as a truck driver, specializing in oversized loads for several years.

Dave was a member of the Penn Yan American Legion and the Naples V.F.W.

David is survived by four children; Alan (Sherri Starr) Johnson, Jodi (Paul Milton) Johnson, Tammy (Daniel Fox) Johnson, and Jordann Johnson; 11 grandchildren, Travis Leo, Joey Johnson, Chelsea Johnson, Cody Reik, Austin Reik, Joshua Bourne, Alan Mack, Ally Mack, Olivia Fox, Dana Fox, and Matthew Fox; and his sister, Bette Ann Johnson. Dave was predeceased by one brother, Earl Johnson.
