Miss Penn Yan 2016 will be crowned during downtown Penn Yan's StarShine Dec. 4.

Miss Penn Yan 2016 will be crowned during a ceremony held as part of the 2015 StarShine festivities in downtown Penn Yan. The 12 candidates for Miss Penn Yan are:

Rachel Bogart: Daughter of Phoebe Bogart, Penn Yan, Junior at Penn Yan Academy, sponsored by the Milo Lodge 108 Free and Accepted Masons.

Rachel is a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters, participated in the Penn Yan Academy musical production of The Sound of Music and is an American Red Cross blood donor.

Rachel enjoys reading, singing, running, and hunting.

If Rachel was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would show respect and give thanks to parents and elders of the community as a way of thanking them for their guidance and leadership now and for the years to come.

Natalie Colon: Daughter of Margarita Morehouse, Penn Yan, Sophomore at Penn Yan Academy, sponsored by Johnson Costello Number 355 American Legion Auxiliary.

Natalie plays softball and volleyball, has participated in the drama club musicals Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat and The Music Man. She is also a member of chorus, Select Choir, Pep club, and Student council. Natalie currently works at the Wagner and the Antique Inn.

Natalie likes to read, run, and write. She also enjoys spending time with her family.

If Natalie was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would improve our community by spending the day fixing the many sidewalks in need of repairs, to make them safer for the children and adults who reside in Penn Yan.

Bella Condella: Daughter of Dan and Joelle Condella, Penn Yan, Junior at Penn Yan Academy, sponsored by the Loyal Order of Moose 2030.

Bella is a Varsity Cheerleader at Penn Yan Academy and a member of Big Brothers Big Sisters. She also works for various local restaurants.

Bella’s hobbies include reading, songwriting, and drawing. She also takes pleasure in watching children, baking, and crafting in her spare time.

If Bella was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would “create a help service for teenagers to call in and share their feelings and thoughts anonymously… for anyone in this community who is struggling and just wants someone to talk to.”

Calysta Conrad: Daughter of Melissa Conrad, Penn Yan, Junior at Penn Yan Academy, sponsored by the Penn Yan BPO Elks Lodge 1722.

Calysta helps with Penn Yan JV and Varsity Volleyball, is a member of the track team, and participates in the Ski Club and the Drama Club. She attends the FLTCC culinary class and was named top of the trade for the month of September. Calysta works at Clinton Crest Manor and helps with events at the Penn Yan First Baptist Church.

Calysta’s hobbies include cooking, camping, and kayaking.

If Calysta was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would have a town picnic to encourage keeping the small town spirit alive. “A town picnic would be successful to bring everyone together in honor of our community spirit.”

Anna Detar: Daughter of Eric and Paula, Branchport, Junior at Penn Yan Academy, sponsored by the PENNnnsylvania YANkee Theatre Company (PYTCo).

Anna has participated in JV Cheerleading (fall and winter) and Varsity Cheerleading (fall). She is a member of the Select Choir/The Blue Notes, the Drama Club, and has been the stage manager for a PYMS production. Anna is also part of her church choir, church youth group, has attended the Upward Youth Conference and is an active participant in Celebrate Service Celebrate Yates.

Anna enjoys reading, sketching clothes, singing, writing songs. She also takes pleasure in banking and playing both the piano and the guitar.

If Anna was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would take away stereotypes. “Stereotypes influence our choices and impact our actions… if we take away stereotypes, we can just be ourselves…”

Brooke Dinehart: Daughter of Jim and Kim Dinehart, Penn Yan, Junior at Penn Yan Academy, sponsored by the Loyal Order of Moose 2030.

Brooke is a member of the Pep Club, Debate Club, Interact Club, International Club, and FBLA. She plays Volleyball, Basketball, and Lacrosse. Brooke also works Eastview Veterinary Clinic.

Booke takes pleasure in playing in the AAU Basketball league, reading, and listening to music. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends.

If Brooke was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, “she would provide support for stray animals in our community by collecting necessities such as food and reach out to local residents for help. “I believe we need to be the voice for all animals because they deserve our love and compassion.”

Sydney Gifford: Daughter of Alexa and Mark Gifford, Penn Yan, Junior at Penn Yan Academy, sponsored by the Penn Yan Lions Club.

Sydney plays JV and Varsity Soccer and JV and Varsity Softball. She is also the Academy Club and Pep Club Secretary. Sydney is a member of the Bio Medical Club, Leo Club, and International Club.

She has participated in Relay for Life, Journey for Sight, and the Mole Day and Pi Day Races. She works part time at Dairymens’ Diner, and Fox Run Vineyards.

Sydney enjoys boating, skiing, and snorkeling. She also likes to read, crochet, and bake in her spare time.

If Sydney was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would “put into place a day dedicated to the cleanup of our community. Creating this day will allow the community to come together to work on a similar goal, all while cleaning up and creating a better community for everybody”.

Jane Miles: Daughter of Susan Hayes and Doug Miles, Himrod, Junior at Penn Yan Academy, sponsored by the American Association of University Women (AAUW).

Jane played JV Volleyball and is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, Interact Club, Youth Bureau, and FFA. She has participated in Relay for Life and has held an internship with Senator Tom O’Mara. Jane works for Miles Wine Cellars.

Jane’s hobbies include government policies, traveling, boating, and snow skiing. She also takes pleasure in helping others.

If Jane was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would “create a website of community service activities [where] residents and businesses of Penn Yan could submit projects they would like help with…”

Kamryn Moravec: Daughter of Kim and David Moravec, Penn Yan, Junior at Penn Yan Academy, sponsored by Seneca Lake Duck Hunters Association, Inc.

Kamryn is a member of the Drama Club. She has also participated in the Funanza and IBO Archery events, Christmas for the Needy, and the Reins of Hope Charity Ride. Kamryn has also attended the New York State Women Inc. Youth Leadership Conference and works at the Himrod Eagle.

Kamryn enjoys reading, dancing, singing, song writing, snowboarding, and horseback riding.

If Kamryn was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would educate survivors of sexual assault and assist them in acquiring the tools and resources they need as well as educate the community in a fun and comfortable way in order to increase awareness and understanding of sexual assault.

Elizabeth Morgan: Daughter of Deven Moore and Matthew Fritz, Penn Yan, Junior at Penn Yan Academy, sponsored by the Izaak Walton League.

Elizabeth played JV Lacrosse and was a member of the JV Lacrosse All-Star league. She is a part of the FFA, Select Choir, and Academy Club. Elizabeth works for the Milly’s Pantry Summer Food Program and is a Bellona Presbyterian Church Youth Member.

Elizabeth enjoys hanging out with family and friends and working at the family fruit stand in her free time, and is an avid reader.

If Elizabeth was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would increase communication between the generations by creating a program pairing off students and elders, “enabling [them] to share their own knowledge and struggles.”

Brittany Gilbert: Daughter of Michael and Melissa Gilbert, Himrod, Junior at Penn Yan Academy, sponsored by the Penn Yan Rotary Club.

Brittany works at the Classic Café and is an involved member of the Penn Yan Assembly of God as a Sunday School helper and participant in other church events.

Brittany’s hobbies include crafting, painting, and playing games with family and friends.

If Brittany was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would take time to remember the elderly in long term care facilities by taking them on a field trip and helping them make cards for their families. “The elderly get forgotten about, they are people too and they deserve to have fun …”

Amy Rider: Daughter of Lee and Chris Rider, Penn Yan, Junior at Penn Yan Academy, sponsored by the Penn Yan Lions Club.

Amy has received academic excellence and is the Leo Club PYA secretary. She is also a member of the Pep Club and Academic Club. Amy also works at the Top of the Lake.

Amy enjoys crocheting, cooking, baking, and fishing. She also takes pleasure in spending time with family and friends.

If Amy was in charge of Penn Yan for a day, she would “improve the community by drawing attention to the little things that we tend to look past [such as] to improve and clean up the outlet trail and create more activities for local children.”
