PENN YAN - Master Sergeant, US Air Force, Retired Greg Disbrow will be the featured speaker at this year’s Veterans Day commemoration to be held at the Johnson-Costello Post #355, American Legion, 2001 Himrod Road, Penn Yan. In keeping with tradition and in memory of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I, the program will begin at 11 am on the 11th day of the 11th month of the year. Veterans Day was known as Armistice Day from the end of World War I until it was changed to Veterans Day in 1954.

FINGER LAKES — The American Red Cross urges blood and platelet donors to give now and help fight the potential impact of seasonal illnesses and a potentially severe flu season on the blood supply. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention predicts a serious spread of flu this year and is already reporting an early spike in cases in several states.
