On July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin made history by becoming the first humans to land on the surface of the moon. Armstrong later became the first person to step onto the lunar surface, on July 21, uttering the famous phrase, "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."
