Some of the best work of 17 of western New York artists working in pastel will be the centerpiece of a new exhibit at the Arts Center of Yates County, opening from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14. The Pastel Society of Western New York is holding their annual juried show in the Flick Gallery with work judged by Rochester’s Kevin Feary and Montana artist Aaron Schuerr. The Pastel Society was formed in 2015 to build and strengthen connections between artists working in this vibrant fine art medium. For those unfamiliar with working with pastels, Schuerr will provide a free public demonstration Saturday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. in Rochester.

While the Pastel Society’s work is featured, other local and regional exhibiting artists working in a variety of mediums will also have work on display in the new exhibit. Friday’s free opening will include wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres as well as a chance to meet many of the artists and congratulate the winners in the Pastel Society competition.  The exhibit will run from Oct. 14 to Nov. 21 at the Arts Center of Yates County’s Flick Gallery, 127 Main St. in Penn Yan.
