Richard “Dick” McConnell passed away December 22, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.

A celebration of Dick’s life will be held at the Penn Yan Moose Lodge at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Strong Memorial Hospital, Pulmonary and Critical Care, 601 Elmwood Ave., Box 692, Rochester, N.Y. 14642. The wonderful people on this unit who cared for Dick will forever be remembered.

He leaves behind a number of people who love him dearly. His sisters, Betty Bozeman, Leah Armstrong, Beverly Rautenstrauch, and Joanie Wynne will always remember the love and guidance he gave. His brothers, Bob Apgar, Joe McConnell, and Gordy McConnell will miss his stubbornness, strength and love. His wife, Jan, is thankful for their 48 years together. Dick’s daughters, Lori McConnell and Deena Conley, will be forever grateful for the traits they acquired from him that make them the people they are today. Dick’s grandchildren, Ryan VanDoren, Matt VanDoren, Lora Bennett, and Joshua Conley will miss him for eternity. Great-grandchildren Jordan VanDoren, Gianna and Darin VanDoren, and Landen, Logan, and Presley Bennett are saddened to lose their grandpa.

He is predeceased by his brother, David McConnell and sister, Gloria McConnell.

Dick was born in Wellsboro Pa. to Genevieve and Clarence McConnell. Dick was an independent truck driver for over 30 years. He spent most of his life on the road, driving truck. The friends he met over the years meant a great deal to him and his family. Always on the road and always worrying about his loved ones was his identity.

When Dick was not working, he enjoyed riding motorcycles, working on his vehicles, including the tractor trailers he drove and owned, watching cartoons, and being with family. He loved spicy foods, dogs, joking and laughing, and westerns.
