Penn Yan Village officials are seeking comments on the recently amended Comprehensive Plan, which will be the subject of a public hearing at next week’s regular village board meeting, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17.
The new plan was developed over the past two years in a process overseen by the village’s planning board working with consultant Steinmetz Planning Group. A link to the plan can be found on the village's website.
The village’s Comprehensive Master Plan, last updated in 2000, and a plan developed in 2015 by the Vision 2020 group, were both used in the development of the latest plan.
It was first presented for public comment at the Village Board’s December meeting. But the discussion that evening included amending the plan to include the concept that the village work with the county and adjacent municipalities to coordinate future development efforts.
A second public hearing will be held Jan. 17 to hear comments on amendments to the village’s Historic Preservation Areas chapter. One of the issues the village is addressing in the Historic Preservation Areas chapter is the role of the village code enforcement officer. Village Attorney Ed Brockman noted the code enforcement officer has no authority in the chapter. The amendments will include authority.
