Martha G. Harris, 80, died Friday evening, March 17, 2017 at Keuka Comfort Care.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday March 23 at the Townsend Wood Funeral Chapel in Penn Yan. A calling hour will be held from 1 p.m. until the service. Burial will be private
Martha was born in Canandaigua, April 27, 1936 to George and Catherine Buckelew Gifford. She graduated from Gorham Central School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Keuka College and her Master’s from SUNY Geneseo. She was a Library Media Specialist for the Penn Yan School District, Dundee High School, and Keuka College.
She served as pianist and organist in area churches for many years. Martha also served on the board of the Yates County Historical Society.
She is survived by a daughter, Joy (Jeffrey) Van Riper, Farmington; a step-son Paul Harris, Burnet, Texas; three grandchildren, Jason Van Riper, Fairport, Jeremey Van Riper, Farmington and Tim Allen, Orange City, Iowa; two step-grandchildren, Mandy and John Paul Harris, both of Texas. She also has three siblings, Carolyn Seymour, Jamestown, Gladys Gifford, Buffalo, and Roy Gifford, Post Falls, Idaho.
She is predeceased by her husband, Ralph Harris, and a son, John Allen.
