The New York State Department of Transportation today announced work will be substantially completed on the culvert repairs at the very south end of State Route 54A in time for re-opening of the roadway for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Work on the emergency landslide repairs about ½ mile north of the Village will begin Tuesday, May 30. Most of this work will require a full road closure until the work is completed at each site. Once started, work at each individual site will be active during daylight hours throughout the week. At times, the work may become a 24 hour/7 days per week continuous operation.

The construction work and road closures at the two emergency landslide repair sites and planned culvert repair site have been staggered to maintain access to residents between the work locations.

Traffic during the construction work at these locations will be detoured using Steuben County Route 76. It is anticipated that the remaining landslide repair work will extend at least to the July 4th holiday weekend. Variable Message Signs in the area will give road users advance notice of the work.

Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
