Anyone who keeps up flower urns and headstones for their passed family members knows what a task it can be, especially with Memorial Day coming up at the end of May.
After seeing many Veterans’ markers getting covered over with encroaching turf, and knowing that many elderly people are physically unable to tend their loved ones’ graves as they would like to, Mike Gleason and Jeff Morehouse have formed a new service company.
Caretakers literally does that. They will plant, place, and maintain flower urns, plus clean and keep up grave sites in Penn Yan and the surrounding areas. Their service is also well suited for those who live outside the area yet have loved ones interred here. Family members have been buying the service as gifts for parents and grandparents for the peace of mind that their family’s graves are being well looked after.
“Our flowers last year lasted till late October, and this year we have fall mums and wreaths for Christmas,” says Gleason. “Even if you already put flowers out at Memorial Day, you can still hire us to water them for the summer and clean around headstone.”
Three levels of care are available:
• Summer Season; includes urn, flowers, and plot maintenance from Memorial Day through Labor Day ~ $150.
• Summer & Fall Seasons; the above, plus planting and care of a fall mum container ~ $175.
• Summer, Fall, & Winter Seasons; all the above, plus placement of a winter wreath ~ $200.
Caretakers give a 15 percent discount for Veteran graves, and a discount for multiple sites. They will also e-mail customers a photo of the site when care is completed. Custom services are also available with individual pricing.
A recent client exclaims: “A great idea! Flowers perfect and pretty! I help my dad take care of the grave and flowers, and it was tough to do from a distance. I have been feeling guilty that my mom didn’t have flowers at her grave yet and that the grass was not cut. I am thrilled about you doing this, and not only will it be timely with lovely flowers, but I can sleep better knowing my mom’s grave is taken care of and that my dad will feel good about it also.”
