Earth Day is April 22. To celebrate, Cornell Cooperative Extension - Yates County will host a recycling event Friday, April 20 at the Yates County Building. There will be workshops on composting, recycling, and much more.
Two Can Dan’s Bottles & Cans will be on site to accept household appliances, electronics (no box TV’s), and all metal, large appliances for recycling (anything with a coolant requires a $10 fee). There will also be locked bins on site for shredding confidential documents. This event is free and open to the public. Cornell Cooperative Extension will be accepting donations in the rear parking lot of the First Baptist Church of Penn Yan.
Two Can Dan’s, owned by Dan and Melissa Gurba of Penn Yan, has been taking the hassle out of returning bottles and cans for over a decade, with customers ranging from local residents, to areas as far as Rochester and Elmira.
Workers will be handing out tree seedlings to the first 100 people who bring recycling items. The seedlings were donated by the Virginia Conservation Legacy Fund Inc.(VCLF), and the ERP (Environmental Reclamation Project) Environmental Fund. VCLF is a nonprofit organization seeking sustainable approaches and public awareness about natural resource use, and they have conserved over 30,000 acres of land, including Virginia’s Natural Bridge.
The Yates County Master Gardener Volunteers will be on hand to answer gardening questions and to give away seed packets and seedling plants.
