While working in a field more than 500 feet off the road, Andrew J. Davis Sr., 62, of Stryker Road, Penn Yan, was attaching a hay wagon behind a square baler when the brake on his tractor dislodged and it began to roll down hill Aug. 27.

As Davis attempted to climb on the tractor to stop it, he was knocked down by the rear wheel and was run over by the attached baler.

Still conscious, Davis spoke with 911 dispatchers to guide rescuers to his location. Yates County Sheriff’s Deputies, Branchport-Keuka Park Fire Dept., Medic 55, Penn Yan Ambulance Corps, Yates County Emergency Management, and Mercy Flight responded.

Sustaining pelvic injuries and multiple puncture wounds from the baler’s tines, Davis was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where he is reported in guarded condition.
