Mustangs host Marcus Whitman tonight and have two more games later this week
The Penn Yan girls’ basketball team dropped two games last week, losing 59-47 to Midlakes and falling 55-49 to Wayne.
Midlakes 59 Penn Yan 47
The Mustangs were tied 8-8 with Midlakes towards the end of the first quarter when Peyton Comfort picked up her second foul with 2:07 left in the quarter. From that point, Midlakes built a 13-9 lead going into the second quarter. Penn Yan did a nice job of beating Midlakes’ press, but could not take advantage, missing a few shots on the break.
Midlakes built their lead to 27-18 at halftime when Jenna Curbeau missed a layup off a rebound that could have cut the lead to just seven points. The second half featured Midlakes taking advantage of second and third shots on offense as Penn Yan was not able to make a dent in the lead.
The Mustangs were led by junior Ashley Sisson who had 13 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Peyton Comfort added 11 points and 5 rebounds. Freshman Sierra Harrison, who at one point in the fourth quarter scored 9 consecutive points on three-point shots, finished with 10 points.
Wayne 55 Penn Yan 49
Against Wayne earlier in the week, Jenna Curbeau led the team with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Harrison had 8 points, and Jammie Decker and Ashley Sisson added 7 points apiece.
The Mustangs hosted Marcus Whitman Monday night, travel to Pal-Mac Wednesday and Wayne Friday.
